Need help finding a good tablet

I am doing research for my company, looking for a tablet PC that will run our software. The point of using a tablet is that someone who uses our software would walk around a construction job site marking the approximate "percentage done" of the project they are working on, in order to find out how close to being on budget they are.

The minimum requirements I'm looking for is around 1.5 GHz and 2 Gig's of ram.

Currently I'm looking at the following, but I would like to have other suggestions.

Asus Iconia

Samsung Series 7 11.6" Business Slate

With your minimum spec requirements the Samsung Series 7 Slate is really your best choice. I have one and its great. I also have the first generation HP Slate which isn't radically different-from the current HP Slate 2 and you'll like the S7S much better.

Umm... how are these going to fare on a construction site? You'll probably want a ruggedised computer. Try here for a start. I've not had experience with any for quite a few years.

We have had fairly good luck on the construction site with several Motion Brand Tablets in the past as there hasn't been many ruggedised machines that provided a large enough screen to be effective. As for how long they last when used on a job-site, I'm not sure, but as far as I know we haven't had any customers tell us that they don't want to use something like this on site.

The other reason why we don't usually look at the ruggedised machines is because of the weight. They are usually around 6lbs or heaver, where the slates I mentioned above are under 2 lbs.

Thanks for the link, I found about 7 or 8 that we might end up looking into that fit into the weight category that Management considers acceptable.

Rugged tablets can be great. If you expect them to be out and about and used in rough environments they probably are the way to go but in a case or with a bumper especially a regular tablet isn't as fragile as many may think.

heatless, the issue would probably be the screen, the rugged tablets probably dont have the typical screen that the samsung series 7 would have, but that is an assumption (didnt really look at it).

The screen on the S7S is a scratch resistant Gorilla glass, pretty much the same stuff on rugged tablets though they do often have a coating or protector as well which you can add after market on consumer tablets.

Are you digitizing the actual plans? or are you checking of a list of stuff as far as percentage complete?
