need a reason to get HL2?

Basically both games rock our socks and the few points extra that HL2 scored is meaningless. Anything over 90% in a review is worth buying no matter what.

that 98% does speak for itself, because they gave half life the game "best pc game of all time" award and that got a 96% i think. They evenm said that hl2 surpasses halflife in every way, meaning that hl2 must be the best pc game of all time i guess

Too bad you don't get that B&W is a piece of shit that shouldn't have gotten over "15" of 100.

In other words, you can't make any sort of conclusions about the quality of a game based on what PC Gamer (or any other rag) says.
 
dont you think the best game ever made should get a 100%? i mean cmon, saying it's the best game EVER made out of thousands of great titles, is saying alot. the best game ever made should be flawless in everyway, perfect in everything it tries to accomplish, and on the penicle of technology. A 98% should be a insult to the best game ever made.

they review, its gonna be subjective.

edit: im just saying, if you gonna say its the best game ever, it should get a 100%. but a 98% is still good, but it just sounds like a hyped review to me. dont get me wrong, im not saying hl2 wont be an amazing game.

I loved that game. It was original, and no game has yet come close to matching the AI of the creatures in it.

Love it or hate it, it was very, very innovative, and we need more of that in games today.
 
After seeing PCGamer give a X800XTPE a 95% and a GeForce 6800 Ultra a 92%, I can't believe that their rating system is any good.
 
The XTPE scored higher because it was quieter and had a single slot cooler rather than the 6800 Ultras louder and bigger cooler.


Performance is only part of the equation.

The initial review was on the "stock" card from NV. They later went back and reviewed
a retail card (think it was the BFG . .. would look but am at work) with the 65.56 drivers and gave it a higher score than the XT . . .
 
You guys want a really good honest to goodness review? Wait for it to come out and see what the guys say about it here. You'll get all the dirt on it (And a few spoilers) within 48 hours tops. You've waited well over a year. Another two days won't matter =P


What i do when browsng game sites is skip the 'official' reviews and go straight to the 'user' reviews. Real world user reviews are much more accurate IMHO.

Come on, now, Sly, you know we'll get all the dirt within 48 minutes. On release day, before I go to bed that night, I expect someone to post here saying they bought the game that morning, already finished and found it: a) tEh greatest game eVAr or b) a real disappointment.

It'll be the best game ever made, in the month it's released. Wait 30 days for something else to come out and become the best game ever released for that month. Don't get me wrong, I think it'll be pretty good, but saying it's the best released is highly subjective. For someone who hates FPS games but loves simulations, then Civ, etc is probably sitting above HL2 on that list of best games ever released.

i think thats its pretty obvious that if you dont like fps then hl2 isnt gonna be your cup of tea. furthermore this is the only time in several years ive seen such a tagline in their magazine.
so i dont think you have a point at all.

I really think this "review" is just something to increase hype and put a tagline on the box. The reviewer wordgasms like 7 times in the first page alone.

I'm still putting my money on STALKER being better, better gameplay, engine and graphics...what does HL2 have that STALKER does not? They seem real similar to me.
 
Ok so some nerd reviewing the game says .. "best game of all time." .. laugh.

I'll decide for myself, not let some guy who gets kickbacks from Valve convince me :)
