I am purchasing my first PC very soon. I am getting everything from newegg. I was just wondering if you guys had any comments, suggestions, or anything like that. Also I was wondering if I should use the heatsink that comes with my processor or get a new one. Here's the specs:

Case: ENERMAX Black ATX Mid Tower Case - RETAIL
CD Burner: Lite-On Black 52X32X52X16 Combo Drive - OEM
Hard Drive: Samsung 160GB 7200RPM Hard Drive - OEM
Memory: Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - RETAIL
Motherboard: GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS Ultra-939" NVIDIA nForce3 ULTRA Socket 939 CPU - RETAIL
PSU: Aspire Turbo Case Series 500W 12V Green Aluminum Power Supply - RETAIL
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512K, L2 Cache, Socket 939 64-bit Processor - RETAIL
Video Card: XFX nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-Bit, TV-Out/Dual DVI, 8X AGP - RETAIL

One more question. Is there much difference between .13Micron and 90Nanometer?

.13 micron = 130 nm

the smaller diesize is cooler and a little better than the 130nm counterpart.

From the list, the only thing i would suggest you to change is the PSU and get a good name-brand like Enermax / Antec / OCZ and the likes.

Also, for the CD-Burner, it would be better with a DVD buner because the price is not that much different now.

I'd change the video card to a 6800 GT or atleast change it to an X800 Pro (XT if you have the money).

For today's and tomorrow's games, unless your playing at ultra high resolutions, 6800 is more than enough. The GT ain't worth the extra 150.00 unless you're playing 4XAA at 1600x1200 on 20" or better screens.

And I agree, swap the PSU for a good brand: Fotron, Antec, Enermax

I should have included more information. I am getting this PC mainly for gaming. I can spend only $1900 which includes tax and shipping. I am getting a lot of other stuff I didn't mention because some of it isn't hardware, like a monitor, wireless router and adapter, input devices, and other stuff. I can list that stuff too if you guys want. I will probably be gaming at 1280 x 1024 with high settings. I can spend about 100 more. Is Thermaltake a good brand of PSU's? If it is I could just buy a 480Watt PSU for the same price as the 500Watt one. Should I go with more wattage? Also no one has answered my question about the heatsink. Should I buy a seperate heatsink? Or is the one that comes with it good enough?

Ok mine cost 1750 and just bought it here are my specs.

Sorry about the double post, but I would defiently get an MSI Neo2 considering it's probably the best Mother board out there for an AGP Video card and by far the best for athe A64 3500.

As I said before if you have that kind of buget I'd defietly be getting the 6800 GT or if you want to spend the money get the X800 XT since there is a like 60 dollar price diffrence and X800 XT >> 6800 GT unless you want to do SLI.

I second the motion for a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. It's been a great board and had no problem with my 90nm cpu. :D And the retail heatsink is working just fine for me although I do have a 3200+ it's running @ 3500+ all I need to change that "5" into an "8" is some better ram.

I decided to get the Mobo and CPU from Monarch because Newegg is kinda picky on their free farcry offer. I decided to get the MSI mobo and a 3200 90nm CPU. I don't think I can afford a 6800 GT so I'm going to stick with a regualr 6800.

Ok, then everything looks good. The neo2 platium (don't know if thats what you want but it's defiently worth the money for a 939 socket processor) isn't aviable at Newegg still...but you can get it at zipzoomfly which is where I got it from. Shipping is free to. :D

I was talking to my dad today about my computer, (I'm 16 BTW) telling him I want to buy my computer this week. He says he would much rather get it from a local store then get it online. Probably because he doesn't understand how computers and the internet work. But anyways, he was asking me if stores around here have the stuff I want to get online and I told him, no they don't. Then he asks how do I know and I couldn't really explain it, I just know best buy doesn't have Cases with windows and PSU's with pretty little lights. lol. He says he wants to look at Newegg's policies to see if they are a trust worthy company.

How can I explain to my computer illiterate dad, that stores don't sell certain stuff and that shopping online isn't as dangerous as it seems?

Point your father to all the ratings and things for newegg. Explain they are the biggest and most trusted online supplier of computer parts. Explain that buying things online will save hundreds of dollars compared to buying from stores. Really 15 minutes online should prove this to him, unless hes paranoid and will form some elaborate conspiracy about the internet trying to steal his money through fake newegg operatives posting massive amounts of false information. Theres also the "shutup its my money" option.

my dad is the same way, he thinks the people online are gonna steal his credit card number and identity.......but then i say what i normally say to him "u dont know what ur talking about" and he just sits there while i leave cause he knows i'm right :D ..... u just got to be a little assertive
