Multiplayer turn-based games?

Anything out there, other than Massive Assault/Domination? I'd like to have a game where my success is not hinged on my speed or twitch reflexes, so when I screw up, I can trace the blame to a decision, and not something like being too slow or having mentally-challenged team mates. Doesn't need to be turn based, either, I suppose. Just something that's slower paced yet still fun and involving.

My favorite turn based Online games have been the Heroes of Might and Magic Series but playing them online could take forever! It's best for LANs.

I agree Heroes and Might and Magic 3 still finds it's way onto my PC even nowadays

i agree, online could take forever, but can't you limit the time per turn? I'm waing on heroes 5 around feb of next year, can't wait

Black and White isn't turn-based, but it isn't a "twitch" game either. Still, finding people who want to play it online isn't that easy.

Who is making Heroes 5 since 3DO went under?

Warlords III was a GREAT turn based multi strategy game. I miss those types of games. It seems like they all lost out to the RTS, and even then it's slim pickins in the RTS genre, too. :(

I hear ya. I just can't compete in games like WC3 where you have to be lighting-fast with your orders as well as balancing everything perfectly.

If i remember correctly civilization 3 was a turned based online game. I may be wrong but i have seen my friend playing that game online several times. Other than that heros of might and magic is a blast.

Civ3 is as well, but hell it even takes even longer than Heroes of might and magic 3 to play a game online with someone

I play a game that is 1 turn every 24 hours except weekends usually (though the parameters vary widely)

It's an old game though and not for everyone. It's called Diplomacy. I play at Dipbounced.com with friends in private games.

It is 95% strategy and 5% luck depending on your opponent's orders (move).

I <3 Warlords III

I picked up Warlords IV a while back and at first I wasn't that impressed with the changes but I've grown to really like it after spending more time with it.

Ah... Well I am glad that they decided to contiue the series, hopefully it will be similiar to the others though

yeah, from what i know, its going to a 3d engine, there are some screenshots over at gamespot.

Scorched Earth. A classic. :)

There's also Scorched Earth 3D, that one supports multiplayer over the internet.

If you want a similar game but with less hassles, go for Gunbound. ;)

I played the board game, I do like the importance of strategy, but luck is removed too much and some tactics are unusual. I've only player it once (4 or 5 hours total) and fared pretty well, I wonder if I'd be any better a second time around.

Does Gunbound have some sort of manual or tutorial? The site is not very helpful, and is poorly translated...

It's pretty simple to pick up, yet is deep.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/582632.html

It's about angle, movement, and power.

You also have to deal with the wind, items, delay, and type of shot (1, 2 or Special). Also, you can pick like 9 or more different bots/mobiles/cars whatever u want to call them that have different shots. All of which provide nice variety.

heroes of might and magic 1,2,& 3 were awesome

hereoes 4 sucked hard.

none of my friends cept one who all liked the original liked the fourth one at all.

It's worthless - destroyed the previous ones.

I think the best of the series was the 2nd one. The animation and sound was the best.

The opera when you went into your castle was so awesome, and the levels weren't out of control large.
