Do any of you guys run this card? I just got one and it runs really hot. I managed to flash the BIOS to under volt to .982v and even still the damn thing runs at 80C while all my other cards run at about 69C. And that's with the fans running at 99%.

Anybody know how to get these cards running cooler?

You got a bad sample. Mine run at 70-75C. How did you undervolt the BIOS?

Apply new paste and remount the cooler. Should be an easy fix.

If it's new, under warranty, I would RMA it.
If not, re-pasting it might be your best option.

Yeah I just got it from Amazon. If I re-apply paste can I not return it?

And yes, I undervolted with VBE7.

I had two of these cards, sent them back ran extremely hot...I did however get the khash up to 798 :) I have proof (picture), but sent them back I knew they wouldn't last....I have new cards to sell check out ebay forum, PM me, I have WAY better prices for my friends on the Hard Forums way from Ebay. :)

A lot of manufacturers that voids the warranty. I had a Sapphire Tri-x that ran hot, and when i tightened the screws that fixed it.

Dude, your account is 2 days old. What friends on Hardforum do you have?

Apparent troll.......poorly trolling....

I had 4 of MSI 280x Gaming Editions at one time about a month ago with the Samsung ram and i had all 4 up to 820khs but they were not at all efficient hash/watt ratio so i ended up returning them and going 270s with that specific order.

The Sapphire 280x Toxics apparently can do over 800khs too. There are documented posts on Bitcointalk forum.

Edit: Here was my thread regarding my experiences with this particular brand of 280x: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=433426.msg4756275#msg4756275

Hey guys I'm not a troll, I have ebay auctions an amazon store up, I have met quite a few good people on here and sold to, I have been coming to this forum for help for years, I just have never had to create and account to get my problems fixed, it was a member that suggested that I create and account....I hate the price gouging on these cards, trying to help out as much as possible. Just posted my mine rig on the mining forums.

If you've met people on this forum for years and have been coming here, why is your account a few days old?

Allen calm down not everything is a conspiracy....I have been reading these forums to help me troubleshoot different problems longer than you have been a member, I personally have never needed an account because most of the time I could get my problems fixed by learning from other members mistakes with no need to post.... but when I read and talk to active members in this forum and the prices they have paid for cards lately I felt compelled to start posting to help eliminate some of the price gouging for members in the market for new cards. I have really only been crypto mining for a month and found very quickly that there were no cards to be had, sooo since I have a consulting company on the side of my day job I decided to call up a few distributors that I have a relationships with. They call me now when cards above 280x come in to see if I want them, I try to wheel and deal to get lower prices than other online vendors right now. I hope that clears up a few things.

How did you communicate with the members without first having an account? You would probably clear up a lot of this by naming the member that suggested you register here, assuming he/she has been here for years and already has some sort of rep. I could personally care less one way or the other as I registered here a few months ago myself after using the site for a few years or so like you. But in no way was I communicating with the members here prior to registering. Just seems odd that's all.

All performance video cards run hot. Doesn't matter if it's AMD or Nvidia. Plus, you didn't mention if you're comparing reference to non-reference.

As I explained earlier, outside the forums selling them hardware, I don't know there handles but I will see if I cant get one or two to post, as I only know there real names and I'm not about to give those out. as far as "clearing" anything up if you want to think I'm a troll and get raped over the coals for vid cards be my guest, but if interested you can PM me, I will even talk to you on the phone, as I realize we are not talking about small sums of money. Thanks

I can personally vouch that kerbos5 is not a troll. I've purchased two sapphire tri-x cards from him and he was extremely fair with the price and accommodating with anything that I needed. Once I get the cards I'll be able to see what kind of hashrates they produce and what memory they have. If they produce 900+ Khash then he's giving a great deal. Heck, even if they're Elpida memory is still a great deal.

Once I have more funds I'll be purchasing a third card from him. Maybe if more people can buy from him then we can get better prices since he'll be purchasing in bulk from his providers. All in all he's a great guy that I've enjoyed dealing with.

Wait, so you are vouching when you haven't received anything yet?

Most of the Sapphire Tri-X have hynix memory, meaning they all get like 970 hash. However, the voltage increase that it requires and the power draw increase at the wall means that usually it isn't worth it.

Also, the Stilt's BIOS for reference-based cards makes pretty much all 290's get over 900 hash. Some of mine hit 1 megahash, but again, the power draw isn't worth it.

I apologize for the late reply here but I currently have in my possision two sapphire tri-x 290s from Kerbos5 and just ordered 2 more yesterday. My two cards run 900KHash in a standard computer case all day long at 68 and 72 degrees with 70% fan speed. All of this without overvolting, core at 1020 and memory at 1500. There is a fan on them and obviously those temperatures would be lower if in a crate. The two new ones will be put in my crate rig and I'll post the performance from those once i get them up and running.

He's given me great products for good prices and has been nothing but accommodating. If my feedback isn't enough to vouch for him then I'm not sure what else to say.
