With the high end mouse pad's on the market I was woundering if any of them are worth it? Right now I use my bare desk as the mouse surface. What do you use and do you like it.
 
I recently bought a "Ratpadz GS" and mouse skates from FrozenCPU because I had $20 credit, and I have grown to LOVE it. I don't have a fancy mouse, just a lightech cordless elite duo... but it is definatly a sweet slick surface!
 
I bough a ratpadz gs to try with my razer viper, but the viper only has 3 mouse feet (2 in front and 1 in back). So it has 2 small plastic things on the edge that drag for balance and they would scrape and make unsmooth movement on the ratpad. Now i use the cover of a normal school binder and with my teflon mouse feet and pledging the binder surface it is very nice :D
 
i have used a original ratzpad for years now .. i just got a new desk and the pad wont sit flat on it =( it has a big warp on it .. gona try to warm it up and flatten it out if it does not ..

i think im gona order another nice one .. not sure which i like the best yet ..
im gona read around on some now ... and i will post somelinks .. also which do you have in mind now ??
 
I had a Ratpadz GS but the center wore out after a year. Now I've got a Func 1030 and it's similar in performance though a bit smaller.
 
ok so i have looked up afew and still thinking

- everglide giganta optical looks nice .. similar to ratzpad - $8

- everglide dkt - i have herd this pad is very nice .. not sure if the top is cloth or plastic ?? can anyone confirm ?? appears to be pretty big - $10

- func 1080 - many people love this pad .. 2 sides with different textures .. nice construction - $20

ones i have never herd of before that i stumbled upon today

- Xtrac Pro Hs - smooth plastic with hexagonal pattern to help optical tracking - $13

- Xraypad Thunder 8 - seems to be just like the func1080 .. :confused: - $25

- C4NGen - thin copperish color'd sheet which you can put on desk or on top of old mousepad .. still new and just out of testing .. sizes available - $8 - $15

still looking around . i will probly end up buying 2 or 3 .. and selling the ones i dont like ones to friends since they use junk
 
I love my func 1030. Used to serve me well in the CS days but now it only sees the light of internet browsing and other crap.
 
I've had an original ratpad for years now.... love the thing to death and its still going strong....

Just bought a new Ratpadz GS to see what they were like.... and they have made the dimples or whatever they are called larger on the new pad which makes mice grate alot more on the surface... especially my new razer viper :(

I've switched back to my old ratpad for now....

Are Hardocp likely to bring back the old version as I'd much rather use that?!
 
I'm still using an original ratpad with a razer boomslang 2000, it's served me well for a long time, but it is starting to warp. the middle is rising, i'm not sure why...

i have a dkt pad. its a huge black cloth mousepad. very simple, but awesome if you have a low sensitivity. i dont even have the biggest one you can buy and it takes up a huge part of my table.

people should note that it isn't like a regular cheapo cloth pad (like a supermat). the surface is really smooth for a cloth pad and works well with most mice.

another pad similar is the Fatal1ty brand Fat pad.

i prefer the func 1030 (there is no 1080 :p )
 
I've used several different kinds of mousepads. The Ratpadz I've used have far and away been the best. Your experience, of course, may differ, but the 3 I use at all the systems I work on have all lasted for years.

i really liked my func pad, but after a while the rubber warped, it would never stay in the base. also i wish there was an oversize version.
 
I absolutely love my Banshee Pad. Its made out of cool aircraft anodized aluminum, which is just fun to say. Plus you get those teflon feet for your mouse for free, I mean come on, why do people sell them for 10 dollars and such when they are less than a penny to make? Also they have this cool thing where you can get your design lasered onto the aluminum.

All in all its a great pad, the company is relatively new but has shown promise.

Oh and did I mention that Red vs Blue also uses them? You can find them on the site.

Most suck.. or are GREAT! then suck 3 months later because they get worn down. Ratpadz GS is nice ... at first. In time it sucks.. the best mousing surface by far on the market is the fUnc pad. I think its less then $20 too.

Get that. Only someone who has a Ratapadz will tell you otherwise... the rest of us wised up.
 
I've went through a few ratpads very quickly on my MX-500. I'd have to say that the fUnc pad is so far the best I've ever had. Had it forever it seems like and still no wear on it.

I have been using my desk for yrs now. cant stand mouse padz.
 
Mouse pad??? What's a mouse pad??? Must be a new invention cause ppl have left me out of the technological loop again...I just use my desk...it's wearing down tho...it's been rubbed on so much that it's super smooth and the actual wood is starting to show (which is smoothed out as well)...you don't need a mouse pad when using an optical mouse and good mouse feet...
 
I use the func 1030 smooth side with my mx700 with teflon tape on the feet. So smooth.
 
unless they fit their whole table with mousing surface. then they are hardcore!

ive thought about doing that for a project someday, then whoever games on that table, doesnt need a pad ehe. need to find a cheap material that is good though.
 
I've used the original ratpadz for a few years now and it's holding up strong. It's a shame to hear they changed the design and the orginal is no longer available (although mine should have a few more years left in it).

Yeah whatever...I play PC games all the time...my desk does as good a job as any mouse pad would do...there really isn't any reason why a mouse pad would work better...they limit your space, they weare down, if it's one of those crappy ones that has the felt stuff glued on the padding then that wears down and peels and starts breaking up into chunks, etc...

Now if you still used a mouse with a ball then maybe a mouse pad would be worth looking into...but with a wireless optical mouse it is not worth buying a mouse pad cause the optical light will read just fine with or withouse a mouse pad...how can there BE a difference???

You obviously have never used a quality gaming mouse pad...

try something like a func pad or a ratpadz, func wont really wear out... or try that steal pad.

There is a big difference... good mouse feet on a quality pad makes the mouse move like its on an air hockey table. Please quit talking out of your ass if you haven't even tried a good mousing surface.

All of us have used the top of the desk, we have all tried cheap garbage cloth pads or 1.99 plastic generic pads, we all know the difference. YOU haven't tried a good pad.
 
anything is better than my mouse pad.... a stained, partially damp pad, that wont stay on teh desk, and had a horrible surface that hinder's movement....i should flip it over, the bottom side slipps more than teh top :D
 
right now I'm using a clip board...the regular kind you clip papers on to write on the go...
the only thing is that the clip is a bit cumersome.

like someone above said, you have obviously never used a quality mousepad. and i stick by my original statement, you aren't an avid gamer. if you ever plan on taking your pc to LAN somewhere you can't exactly take your desk with you and thus you can't play exactly the same. you can claim there wouldn't be a difference, but when you tweak all your settings and peripherals exactly how you want them, playing the game somewhere else with a different setup does not yield the same results.
 
I just got back from Japan and purchased my very first "gaming" mouse pad. Its an "Elecom" I don't think they sell them here in the states, but they call it there "High Definition" mouse pad, and its unbelieveable!!! Its made from 100% silicone and it really does feel like its gliding on a hocky table. The bottom feels like its glued to the desk top, so its impossible for it to slip out of position. It was the most expensive mouse pad the store had (about 25 bucks), and I will never go back to those hard, plastic, optical pads ever again.


I also just got the MX700 duo, dunno if contributes to the overall feel, but it's a complete turn around from my old mouse and pad.
 
I just bought 2 of the Ratpadz GS for my gaming laptop and my home box. They are great pads. slick enough to be fast but enough friction to be accurate. Im using an MX510 on each. I have also used fUncs in the past and they are nice pads, but they tend to slip around after a while. Also the 2 peice design doesnt lend itself well to portability for my lappy. the fUnc will also not perform so good after a year or so, just like people say about the ratpad.

I have the Xtrac, not a good surface in my opinion, falls apart easily. (got it for free at a LAN) and the Fatal1ty pad is just the same over sized cloth one you can buy @ microcenter for 6 bucks. I loved them for use with my razer boomslang mice. Best cloth pad out there.

anyway there is my 2 cents on each of them.

LOL....you game with this thing? I work for a large company and the only people I see useing these things are the old programmers guys who have been here for 20 years. im not bashing you, but I could never game with such a primtive device. mabey for some centipede or something.

yeah metallica_band - I used to use the desk and all myself, but some desk surfaces dont work well for optical mice (or at all), plus they seem to get so dirty so fast.

Um, I've had my fUnc pad for 3 years and it's still perfect other than the warped rubber base.

What do people do to their pads? Use them as sandpaper?

Anyways, I think the Xray Pad will probably best the fUnc simply because the base is ABS plastic. Other than that, the pad looks similar in texture. I'm gonna order one and compare the two. I hate the warped rubber on my fUnc. The surface is awesome though.
