Ok i got a good one for ya guys... My friend had her friend come over and some how used CC Cleaner free open source app to remove the Most recently used list in the XP Start menu.

Problem is she wants this and i cant find the option in CC Cleaner that removed this PLUS i cant find a option any were thats even documented in windows to put it back.. I even checked to see if it created a policy using "NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList" and it didnt so i dont know...

Any one have any sugestions on how to get her back her Most recently used programs in her start menu?

Is it just a matter of opening new programs to re-populate the list? Is the list still there, or was it set to classic start menu mode? If none of those two turn up anything, what if you go in and alter the number of programs it shows, from the default of 6 to something else?

Crap cleaner does that, only really way is to use those programs again, or do a system restore to before she did the cleaning.

Its not in clasic and its not repopulating at all thats the problem she claims that nothing will come up and shes been running apps all day.

yeah thats the problem with ccleaner, why i dont use it anymore, have her do a system restore to a point before you ran the cleaner

Before you jump in to do a system restore try this:

Right-click the Start button and choose Properties. Choose Customise for the Start menu and check the setting for number of programs to display on the Start menu. If it's been set to zero then the recent programs won't be displaying, and you'll need to change the setting to get them back.

I personally set this to zero on every system I use. Instead of using it I 'pin' the most frequently used programs there, and use the All Programs list for apps I use infrequently.

I just did a fresh install of XP SP3 and no matter what tips I've tried from googling this(registry edits included) the most frequently used programs area on the start menu remains empty. :(
