Mortal Shell 2

I'm not super far (I've had limited time to play) but I think it's tougher than the demo. I think I'm taking more damage per hit and enemies seem to take less.

Glad to hear it’s not just me. I wonder if they drop less gloom too, I had a really cohesive level 15 build at the end of the beta, felt pretty strong. Pretty much everywhere feels seriously dangerous, at level 18 even a clean shot from the bats will one shot me lol.

Jeez. I figured I'd put in a few minutes on my lunchbreak. The game crashed when I was picking up the Thief's shell. Like 20K gleam = gone when I restarted the game. A couple things I'd cleared out earlier = incomplete, too. At this point I'm actually thinking of just starting over.

EDIT: I just remembered I did an image backup of my machine last night. Macrium to the rescue. My glimpses are back and saves have been restored.

levels dont really do shit in terms of damage and HP. levelling the shell is where its at. which sucks, cause you can only do 2 shells per playthrough, because you cant refund the glimpses. so you gotta really commit.

beat the 3rd gate tonight, that last boss was a bitch and a half. had to really redo my build to have a chance. heavy weapon stagger was the way to go, dagger and axe just dont stagger enough. battleaxe and the guy was on the ground more than upright.

Yeah but leveling gives you Shell points which matter a great deal.

I figured I’d just stick with Tiel for the first run so only put points in him so far, will invest in another once he’s maxed. Hell I’ve only upgraded the axe and dagger as well, gets super expensive. Haven’t upgraded a sidearm at all. I’m in need of glimpses more than anything to get his bond to level 4.

theres tarstones for gloom and gold, might be a good idea to get them early.
proxima has a skill which gets you a good amount of gold, but you can never have too much of that it seems

Is there a way to make the game super easy for us old guys that just like the combat and scenery and don't like the sweaty stuff?

yeah, there is an item.

but i think its perfectly fine without too.
i generally suck at soulslikes, thats why this one appealed to me tbh. everything feels doable, no stamina makes it more action-y.

Sir Isaac, the Scholar-Prince, boss fight is going to be the first brick wall for most. The Malenia, Blade of Miquella, of this game. Fortunately, you can skip him. I hear the final boss, Zmey the Unbidden, is the hardest.

This is one strange game. I'm digging it though. I've seen more enemy variety in one hour of this than the entirety of Nioh 3. Also how cool is that heavy attack combo where you grab the blade of the sword and hit the enemies with the handle?

Only thing I don't like so far is that your character doesn't face the camera when you run towards the screen. I'll never understand the decision to force a rear view of the character.

I finally had a little more time to play last night. I appreciate that the demo areas are in the game, but they're fleshed out with more NPC's and the world is slightly different. I'm definitely convinced you take more damage than in the demo. I feel like I'm dying in 2 hits consistently. That's fine and I appreciate a little difficulty bump, but it's just worth noting.
Gameplay-wise, I wish there was a bigger "tell" with the parry. I can't always tell if it worked or not, especially since it usually takes several to riposte. I don't know if the world needs to pause like the From games, but I think I'd like something more defined. In terms of bugs, I had my one full-on CTD yesterday that borked my save. This morning the game froze when loading that one castle you get stuck in when you grab the gold on a ledge. I don't think I had a single issue with the demo, although that was also like 3 Nvidia drivers ago, too.

Yeah I read some of the Steam reviews and they’re riddled with complaints about balance differences in the full release. I stepped foot into Mammon briefly last night and holy hell even the trash mobs are armored and hit like trucks.

yeah, you kinda feel good about your damage and survivability at the end of the first area. then mammon hits, and you rethink that. lol.

its kinda nice though, you start thinking about what makes your build work, and swap out tarstones, level them up. and then your damage is THERE, and it feels great. survivability is a problem still though

edit: getting a support tarstone to level 3 for the permanent elemental damage buff is pretty significant.

Yeah I have the blood curse one maxed for my axe/dagger and the fire one maxed for my sidearm. I don’t use the sidearm much as I prefer to use my resolve for the charged light attack.

My only complaint so far is how limited resources are. Upgrading weapons and shells is so expensive you almost have to just pick one of each for an entire run.

I would welcome some balance adjustments and QoL features. Enemies are dense and beacons are not, makes exploring the unknown a dangerous endeavor. I kind of like that but it’s a bit much.

I may even look some stuff up and make sure I’ve cleared everything in the first area, I only have 3 weapons and 3 sidearms and I know I’m missing stuff. Mammon feels rough as hell at level 27 with a level 13 weapon.

Looks like they rolled out a decent sized patch a few minutes ago. I'm still getting weird crashes at unpredictable times, so I uninstalled it and DDU'd my drivers just in case. This isn't the sort of game where instability is okay.

theres a tarstone, albeit in the very south at the gate, that gives you warp which is basically godmode for dualwield, it doubles your attacks.

balance patch just dropped, its 75% cheaper to smelt a weapon and try a different one

edit: oh and apparently you can max 3 shells with the glimpses from one playthrough. ive just maxed my second, 2/3 gates in mammon done. thats where most of the glimpses are, the gates.
