We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Monitoring internet usage?

I'm searching for a viable solution to continued Internet usage abuse on our network.
We use our firewall to blacklist websites; however we would like to be able to generate reports to caracterize abuse by users, so that we can take action against the user instead of blocking access to websites.

We utilize a Watchgaurd FireBox as our Firewall, this is a Windows 2000 Domain, composed of mainly XP workstations however there are still a few NT and 2000 machines around. There are approximatly 600 machines on our network that I would like to be able to monitor.

Does anyone have any input as to how reports of Internet history, search terms, and other uses can be aquired remotely?

Use a proxy server and force it to the clients with a GPO. I disabled direct internet access using Access Control Policies on the firewall (Netscreen-25).

I use ISA server with SquidGuard Blacklists (imported as Destinations Sets) and then use Proxy Inspector to run reports on usage. I also use GFI's free "web monitor" for ISA to monitor in "real-time"

I use a setup similar to above except I use Censornet instead of ISA server as it's a free product. It's meant to do content filtering so if you want to catch people doing it instead of preventing them from being able to do it you'd set up all the users as non-filtered and then just access the reports.

The bad thing about censornet is at this point, the user has to log on to the proxy server when first opening internet explorer. It's an extra step, but I find it serves as a nice reminder that they're being watched.

Censornet is free. Check it out.
