Missing IDE devices

I have had my liteon DVD burner installed for months now and every thing worked fine. Now my computer can't find it or the factory installed dvd reader. The ide cable is secure. I have not changed anything so what gives.

In device manager I get this message for the liteon burner.

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I get this message for the Toshiba DVD ROM

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Troubleshooter did nothing.

I unpluged the Toshiba DVD rom, that did nothing.

I replaced the IDE cable, still nothing

In BIOS they both show up.

Please help
 
reset the cmos or update the ESCD data.

Inspect the jumpers on the drives. Make sure they are on their own Master/slave instead of CS.

Uninstal the driver in windows and reboot to let it pick it up again.
 
If it is the only drive on that channel set it to Master. Could be your molex connector also. Another problem could be a bad IDE channel. I've had this problem a couple of times and it usually just fixed itself. It could also be a bad drive. Try it in a different PC, if it works there likely to be a bad IDE channel/controller. If it doesn't work it's likely the drive.
 
Did you install/uninstall any new burning software?
If so, the software may have changed some registry values that need to be removed.

I would follow the directions described below (if you're using win xp). If the values are installed you will see them immediatley. Just remove them. Reboot. And you are on your way.

1. Click on START button, the click on RUN
2. Enter REGEDIT and press enter
3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Then close REGEDIT, shutdown & restart your PC
