Where would the breakeven point be at this point? Lets saw you spend like 1500 on parts and all that. Don't factor in the electric costs as mine are bundled and I pay the same amount every month no matter how much I use.

I dunno how people make it worth it even with electric costs.

thats because LTC is hardly profitable to mine right now,i think doge is your best bet or one of the other alt coins.

I guess if we factor in other coins. But how much Dogecoin can you mine and exchange to make it worth it?

So far it has greater profitability and market than LTC does. No one knows the answer to your question because you haven't even given us a breakdown of how you would allocate your $1500. The availability of cards isn't what it once... hell, you are even seeing 270xs going for $300 on newegg.

I suppose we're talking about getting 2 R9 290s and a other items.

I guess it can't be predicted as accurately as I thought.

Try this calculator: http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/dogecoin-mining-calculator

I get around 52 - 55 days for the numbers I was putting in there. Keep in mind I was not using numbers for high end cards like an R9 290, but just maybe a pair of used 7850s or 7870s.
Basically my best estimate is that you would be around 2 months or so before break even with Dogecoin. Of course that may change as the value of the coin changes.
To be blunt, I would say don't expect to get your money back for 3 months and after that it's all profit. If you can handle being without the initial investment for a few months, then it's worth it. If not, pass.

Sounds interesting. Might try it out. Is there a suggested pool to go with for Dogecoin?

dogehouse is one of the biggest ones,i was on it for a while but i moved to doge.rapidhash.net so dogehouse wouldnt be such a power house and cause a fork.

might i suggest a different route there are these magical things called multipools they mine a series of coins and automatically convert them to either litecoin or bitcoin I'm currently throwing about 800kh/s at Middlecoin and doing so i have made about 8 dollars a day in bit coin directly to my wallet in 100 days it should make me a full bit coin at the rate i'm mining roughly 300 a month at that rate. There is one for litecoin too switcher coin mines dogecoins and a few others switches them to litecoins automatically i am putting my rigs back to a single con pool if and when bit coin goes back to 800+ as the alt coins have not really lost too much value compared to bitcoin that has speed up my middlecoin generation.

As for what to get for 1500 you have options
1.) asic for bit coin you could get some pretty decent begginer ones the 2.2gh usb go for about 50 add some 10 port strips and a pc to host them about 44gh/s for that btw middlecoin atm is generating about 70 gh/s worth of bit coin for me at 800 kh/s per 24 hours
2.) i would say 4-5x r9 270x they only consume 150w they do 430 kh/s you will need powered risers and a board that can run 4-5 cards 1720-2150kh/s gigabyte msi or asus are the preferred cards...xfx are ones to stay away from.

advice on cpu for the most part cpu mining is in efficient there are some coins that favor it but not many i have found the more cores the better but my suggestion is stick to a low wattage cpu my a10-7850k is pulling 53w and stays about 114F it generates about 135 kh/s between the igpu and the cpu this is higher than most other cpu.

getting 2150 kh/s 1500$ will take about 111 days to make and you will pull 4800 per year
