Minecraft

I'm not quite sure what the requirements are to be honest with you. I get frequent error messages that 'the system can't keep up' but no matter how many resources I throw at it, it still happens regularly. I believe it's a bug of some sort.

I don't think it requires anything powerful though. I've tried it on a single core (virtual machine) 2.4ghz with 512mb of ram and it ran just as good as 3 cores and 2.5gb of ram. I think the biggest issue is having the bandwidth required for 'x' players.

The biggest problem is that its alpha and very unoptimized code.

Anyone have some tech specs for a Minecraft server? I'm looking at standing up a P4 3.0ghz w/2gb of ddr and 80gb of SATA disk with XP SP3 in the closet, it'll be serving one world, SimpleServer and possibly Hey0, maximum population of ten peoples.

I don't have any idea how well this would work. Minecraftforums.net is completely {S}oft, so it is of no use whatsoever.

Honestly the more ram you throw at it the better... and a pretty quick hard drive. As for processing power I'm thinking you can skimp there and still not have much to worry about.

I should hook up an old Pentium 3 and test that theory... for science!

Eh, I've got the optiplex I mentioned earlier, I'll throw it up and see what's what.

I'm never going to have a decent garage compy at this rate ;_;

So, boats and carts work on multiplayer.

me and fweeple tested minecarts just now. was fun just experimenting on our 20 track layout, but we found out that carts can't be destroyed easily, if at all. So you need to plan ahead and get a track system that doesn't need to to replace the cart at the beginning...it needs to go both directions cuz you aint getting that cart off the track unless you destroy a section and push it off somehow.

Boats seem to work ok, sometimes its a PITA to get out of the boat for some reason.

So the server is burning...

Really...I thought new server was going to fix those problems.

Wait...all the stuff we built is gone?

It IS alpha software.

Yes, I realize this is the purpose of having an alpha, but it would be nice to receive an update that doesn't break more things than it fixes (SMP, not SP). Oh well, I suppose it is time to take a break from Minecraft until Notch starts fixing things.

What do you think happens in alpha? Instead of bitching you should honestly be happy its been as stable as it has been thus far.

Agreed. When you sign on to an Alpha build you do so, or SHOULD, that things will break, get fixed, and break again. That's what happens when you build a piece of software as a living project. New additions add new complications, compatibility issues and opportunities for improvement.

Yes, you guys are correct. I enjoy Minecraft a bit too much so I sometimes make foolish remarks when something takes away from my enjoyment. :)

Moving on... Looks like Hey0 has an update to his mod:

Pre-release.
Essentially the "unofficial update" merged with plugins-not-loading-on-startup-fix.
b125 is brought to you in part by Grum and Meaglin. afaik it works."

Lame, I paid $13.70 for my game and I want my game to work right and perfect!

Last I checked the price is supposed to go up as it hits beta and release versions. So technically you paid for part of his product. That's what your getting, part of it.

Btw im only available outside the forum ( for things like user. Permissions and server stuff) 6am to 12pm CST

I wouldn't mind the 'IT'S ALPHA DEAL WITH IT' argument if we had an option to *not* use the latest patch. (If we do, please let me know!)

And you can say 'you should be testing the latest, it's alpha, you're there to test' - but we paid to have fun. We should be able to use the least buggy version if we want.

Oh well. It's just pointless complaining, I'll stop. :)

Thanks. Just joined but there is so much lag. Plus I guess we all need to be added as builder status again.
