MGS1 on a PS2 problems

Well, after picking up MGS2 (and that was after playing MGA), I wanted to see some of the story from the rest of the series. I tried to figure out which version of MGS is the best to get. I wound up with the PS1 version becuase of reported problems trying to get the FMV's to work (and, to a certain extent, hardware acceleration wasnt available.. but thats a minor issue since it runs fast in software). I don't have a gamecube, or else the Twin Snakes would have been the obvious choice.

Anyway, I'm at the point now where I have to switch discs... and when I do, nothing happens. It just sits there. For a long while. My Disc 2 isnt bad, as I can launch the game from it. In fact, if I were to launch from disc 2, load my save file, have it ask for disc 1 (and put in disc 1), the game will start out in the snowfield.. but then crash when it goes to the cutscene. Disc Speed and Texture Mapping is on standard.

Any ideas? If I can't get this to work, I'll probably try the PC version with a PS2 -> USB adapter.. I really don't want to buy another console.. heh.

Thanks in advance.

Which PS2 are you using again? The Slim/Newer one or the bigger one?

I had the same problem way back in the day, but my disks were pretty scratched. To get around it though, I sprayed my disk with pledge (a good amount of it, enough to cover the entire disk), let it sit for a few seconds, then dried it with a lint-free cloth (paper towl = bad... it may leave little fuzzies on your disk). This is sort of the poor mans scratch fix. Usually only works once or twice, but that will be enough to get you past that one trouble spot. Since you can load fine from the disk, filling in the scratches once should be all it takes.

I'm using an older PS2.. SCPH-30001 I'm not sure which "version" it is, but I got it in June of 2001.

edit: I should also mention that the discs themselves are really clean.. surprisingly clean for a game bought used at a gamestop. there are practically no scratches on the discs themselves.

Well I tried the MGS game on my ps2 (my second disk is especially scratched) and it works just fine. Might just be your system.

That model is the devil.... mine throws up on itself when you put some dvd's in it. Its also starting to be picky about which discs it likes. Sometimes it will play the blue/black ones and loads them quick. Othertimes it has trouble with blue and gold ones. Usually after I clean it with a disc cleaner (the kind with the brushes on the back of the disc) I can get away with playing for a few weeks.

I suggest finding someplace that can service your system... if you plan on using it as a primary. They usually check the laser and give the inside a nice spitshine.

The most it could cost would be like 50 bucks or so. Thats if they have to replace parts or put a new laser in them.

Of course... this could be something linked to the game itself (not the console). In that case I don't know.

In that case I would just yell at hope for the best.

I just played Twin Snakes today at my cousins house. They've wanked that game totally lol.

The word(s) I'm looking for is "Over Martial Arted" "Overkill" "Bull*hit"

-Every action cutscene is just ridiculous stunts (if you remember on the original they didn't do half the amount of crap they do in TS)

-The voices are all different of course, which was dissappointing bc David Hayter (Solid Snake) sounds older - (back when MGS1 came out his voice along with alot of others in the game sounded *fresh)

-You can aim now, a feat that the other game didn't offer. I remember walking around watching to see if my laser on my gun would line up to an enemy then realize "oh yeah I can aim" just took a while to get used to.

-Boss Battles, friggin insane now especially the fight with Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis.

Overall it was fun, didn't take very long but, I guess that's because I've played the original and kinda knew what was going to happen where ect..probably be alot more fun for the people who are new to the series.

Get your hands on an old GC (I looked on ebay and saw one for like 70 bucks w. games).
