I have an Inspiron 1200. It has some wierd integrated 256mb DDR1 PC2700 memory stick in it. I bought an OCZ 512mb DDR1 PC3200 memory stick from Newegg to add to it. I installed it and the screen was all wierd so I assumed that the memory was bad and it was using it for the screen buffer. I RMAed it. I finally recieved the new stick and it is doing the same thing. What should I do.

Sounds like a compatibility issue... but are you sure its integrated? Maybe I'm out of touch but I cant remember last time I saw integrated memory on a mobo.

I updated my bios and it still produces the same error. It is probably some compatiblity issue with the laptop. I doubt that it being two different speeds has anything to do with it.

Probably means "integrated" as in "hidden under the keyboard and not near the spare slot at the back".

It's bound to be a compatibility issue, OP. Older laptops have picky memory controllers, or an incompatibility with the other memory in the laptop. You could try ripping out the "integrated" memory (remove keybaord, find the service manual on Dell's site somewhere, I'd guess.).

We have had this at work with older dell desktops - they are extremely picky tbh and would be better to get crucial for max compatiability

Oh its not old i'm just saying that we have older Dells that have been really fussy with memory (whether it was corsair, generic or such like) but we always have success with Crucial memory becuase it is manufactered to Dells specs
