MBP screen

I'm planning on getting a Macbook Pro and have a question, actually two.

1) I noticed you can get the screen in either the basic matte or a glossy for no extra charge. Are there any positive/negatives to either decision?

2) Is my timing bad on actually buying a MBP? I've been reading that the product is nearing the end of it's cycle on updates.

thanks

1) I personally like the matte screen. It doesn't show fingerprints as well, and is not effected by low-light glares. Hoewver, the glossy is supposed to provide more accurate colors, and from what I can tell, works better in high light (so long as its not glaring).

2) Yes, it is near the end, but I do not know what they could possibly do to make it better.

There have been reports that Apple is moving to LED-backlighted displays, but we don't know what products will get them. Bottom line, I wouldn't buy a Mac until Leopard release unless I didn't have a choice.

Other way around, Matte is more accurate colors. The glossy is more saturated and powerful colors but they are not accurate.

I have the glossy display and throughly enjoy it. I haven't used the matte display so I don't have a great frame of reference. I would also wait for Leopard if you can.

I'd prefer the matte screen as I never really liked the glossy. My wifes laptop is glossy and the glare is horrible.

I'm not sure what to do now, I feel that an update is real close simply because I want to buy now (that's my luck). I may hold out till WWDC and see if they announce anything there, if not I'll go with a current MBP 15".

Sorry, I meant to say rich/virbrant (/saturated). I have no idea which one is more "accurate" colors. I personally love my matte. It can get super dirty and you still cant tell :p

I've owned both types of screens and in all honesty I prefer the glossy, it just seems "nicer" plus I'm all for the exaggerated colors.

I prefer the glossy but I own a matte. I wish I got the glossy but it's not a deal breaker at all.

I would say wait as long as you can before you buy it, personally I'm getting another one. I'm waiting for Leopard.

Ok, wait I shall. lol

I'm building a new desktop system too, (see sig, my system is a bit over 3 years old) so I'm waiting on that as well.

This is good though, it'll give me more time to read up on this stuff plus I love getting something right when it comes out.

The next update could easily just be OS 10.5, LED backlights and maybe some top-end model with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. If Apple waits till summer they might go DDR3 and Penryn (45nm) for the lower power draws, DX10 mobile might be out by then too. Eventually mobile quad-core and solid state drives will come into play too, but that ought not be until 2008.
