I usually leave me computer on most of the time, but the other day I shut it down for a few hours, when I went to turn it on it didnt completely turn on, but started to pulse. I knew it was pulsing because my Epox mb with the digit code leds at the bottom was pulsating on and off, and all my fans were as well. I tried unplugging everything but the gc and nothing changed. I'm completely lost as to what the problem is. Please help.

anything else that would be helpful?

check your 4 pin p4 connector. otherwise, try swapping out your psu. yours might be a little light for your machine, or just broken.

Ok this is what I tried: I bought a new psu from best buy and hooked it up. At first it didnt work at all, and then it started working but would only post and then shut off after about 3 seconds (its not pulsating anymore). IWhen I was fiddling around I noticed that the bottom of my motherboard was very hot. Just to the right of the bopttom 2 pci slots. Its a pretty big area so I'm not sure what specifically is hot. Now that I think about it while playing games I get artifacts frequently when I'm not overclocked. I wonder if its my mb, but its fairly new (few months). Could artifacts be caused by a motherboard, low power, or something else?

Does anyone have anymore ideas cause I'm all out of them?

have you checked all the obvious stuff; hs not seated, fans working, sb not overheating, vid card fan working, vid card power connected, connectors tight, no exposed pins on molexes, etc?

are you able to get any number from the diag?

any beeps at all?

same thing happened to my friends computer..it would turn on for a few sounds or the fans would be on then shut right off after like 3 seconds. He said it was from overheating. do you o/c? that could be a cause also

I tried disconnecting everything and letting it sit for a few minutes then restarting it. When I was starting it I pushed the power button repeatedly and nothing happened then about 10 seconds later after i tried turning it on with a screwdriver and set the screwdriver down it turned on by itself without me trying to start it. I then got into the bios for a short time and i checked the temps and everything seemed fine and then it shut off after about 30 seconds. I noticed that the code for the led was "7f" (i think) I' looked it up and it said:

1. switch back to text mode if full screen logo is supported (it isnt)
2. IF no erros occure or f1 key is pressed to continue: "clear epa or customization logo"

This means nothing. I now think its a heat issue for something on the motherboard and by doing what you said and waiting it allowed the mb to cool off and then allowed me to start up the computer for longer until it overheated again and shut off.

Right now I'm just testing it without anything but the video card and its not working.

The bottom of the motherboards seems to get real hot but I can't locate the source.

Any ideas?

i am pretty sure your power button or reset button sticks/is stuck. this would make it shut down after 4 seconds. the other error makes me think that your bios is corrupted.

Sounds about right, disconnect all your plugs (power led, hd led etc) and then try turning it on by shorting the power switch connector. See if that solves it.

Man you learn something new everyday, i swear the forums are the best place to learn things , well cool.

Something else to check to, if you have the wake on feature for you keyboard. Like if you assign a key to power on the machine via the PS2 keyboard. Sometimes this gets messed up when you use a USB keyboard. Just worth checking.
