So I got buy a new IO Magic 16x DVD RW, a raptor drive and a new heatsink. I take the old sink off of course the athlon 64 pops right out of the socket and falls off the bottom of the heat sink bending about 20 pins. I bend them all back and it boots. I install XP on the raptor and the dvd drive and all is fine. Several reboots in I get a Machine Check Exception and It boots randomly with no problems maybe once every 10-20 tries. So I try everything I can think of, then after about a week of frustration and no luck I buy a new 3200+ of ebay. About 5 days ago I find this thread http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=26949 It does not help because at that time they had no answer to the problem. Mean while my new 3200+ is still on the way due in tomorrow. Tonight I go to the thread and the reveal that taking their CD/DVD drives out of the loop fixes the problem. When I unplug the drive it now reboots perfectly. I want to find a solution to the Machine Check Exception. Anyone have any ideas.
