How much of a difference is there between the 6490M and the 6750M?

If you had to choose between the 6490m with the hi-res anti glare and the 6750m with the standard display, which would you choose and why?

Decisions decisions.

Are you planning on ever touching a game? If so the 6490 will be mostly useless.

I would do the 6750m with the high res anti glare. Glossy screens suck no matter what resolution they're at. Gaming performance will be better at lower resolutions, but glossy still sucks.

If you never game, then the 6490 with the better screen is a fine choice.

You are going to put me over budget!

Oh well. I hope to be able to pull the trigger in the next month. I'll probably go with the hi res anti glare and the 6750.

How will that compare to my desktops 6850?

Well, I would strongly disagree with the 6490 being "mostly useless"

I have a 6490 with the High Res screen, granted I didn't get it to game, but it does a decent job at the games that I play (HL2, Portal, EvE, etc).

Whichever GPU you choose, get the Hi-Res screen. It's well worth the expense. I've got the HR Glossy on my MBP and love it.

Well a desktop 6850 versus a mobility 6750 is a pretty big difference. I was watching some Warcraft videos on the 15" macbook pro with the 6750m and they couldn't maintain 30+ FPS with all settings on mostly max. So it's pretty weak for gaming.

You can look up some youtube videos yourself and see how games are performing on it and see if that is acceptable to you.

Was that at 1440x900 or 1680x1050?

It kind of depends whether this is going to be your primary computer or not. What's the point of getting the 6750 option if you're also going to be using a desktop with a 6850?

If you're selling your desktop and you'll just be using the MBP, I'd get the upgraded GPU and then use an external monitor when I needed the increased resolution.

If you'll be using the MBP in addition to a gaming computer, I'd get the nicer screen and the weaker video card.

But you might as well max out the options if you're getting a MBP. Higher specs now means higher resale value down the road. It's an investment.

I don't follow things closely enough to comment on the GPU, but spend the extra money on the high res screen. I usually have my MBP hooked to a Cinema Display, but when I don't I long for more screen space.
