Mac Mini Problem

So i have a mac mini hooked up to my tv in the living room and i play movies over the network from a server i have in the house. The problem is that every now and again when i switch the tv over to the mini, which is connected through a dvi to hdmi adapter, and i click any button on the remote, nothing happens. My tv just continues to say no video input. This is a pain in the ass, because the only way i can get it to show any thing on the display again is to restart it. I've searched a bit, but i haven't come up with anything useful
Also i have noticed on several occasions that when i switch the tv over to the mac the screensaver is playing, meaning it did not go into sleep mode, which makes me wonder if the mini is not sleeping and then just locking up. But i'm not sure what to do, so any advice would be great

try running a VNC server on it. Next time this happens connect through the VNC connection and then you'll be able to see what is going on.
 
interesting idea, i just have to figure out how to setup vnc... but definetly an interesting idea. thanks for the advice, i'll give this a shot and get back to you guys

Sounds exactly like a handshake problem. The most likely scenario is when the TV switches off the input that the computer is connected to, the graphics drivers of the PC are telling the PC that there is no display actively turned on so it goes inactive.. Then when you switch back to that input on the TV, the graphics drivers on the computer are not telling it to sync back up. I've seen simple graphics driver updates fix this problem.
 
Now that you mention it, i noticed the other day that the mini wanted to install a graphics update for leopard... i'll have to go update it and see what happens. This makes a lot of sense though, and even if the update doesn't work, then at least i may have some direction to start looking in.

I updated the mini & set it up so that i can share the screen with my laptop, and everything is working well as of right now, but i'll keep you guys posted with any updates
