I'm currently looking for an affordable, mid-range board for a rig I built more than three years ago. Have the original LGA775 C2D E6400 in it, and went through three (one DOA) Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboards before sticking it in a corner and buying a Mac. Finally looking for a board to get it back up and running for light use. Not going to overclock it or do any sort of enthusiast stuff with it, just want the thing to run reliably. I'm completely out of the loop and pretty well have lost all knowledge I once had of PC hardware. If anyone has suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

In case the rest of the specs are needed:
2x2 DDR2-800 memory
ATI X1900XTX card
2x SATA drives
PCP&C 510 SLI PSU
Also have one of the old Thermalright Ultra 120 heatsink in it, but if I can't find a board to fit it I can scrounge up another heatsink somewhere.

I have built three computers using a Biostar G31E-M7 mATX mobo. The Biostar mobo is $49.99 with free shipping at Newegg. All three PCs have run great, and it actually overclocks pretty well. I am using the mobo in my HTPC and have an E7400 @ 3.5Ghz on stock voltages, running very cool.

You can't change the multiplier, but you can change the FSB. That is the limiting factor on your processor since it only has an 8 multiplier. You might as well OC it if you can IMO. Change the FSB to 333 and you will have a 2.66Ghz processor instead of a 2.16Ghz one. If you buy a decent Zalman CNPS9700 from someone off [H] for $30, you can really step up your system for $80. Or just buy an E7400 for $75 off [H] and have one at 2.8 and sell yours for $35-$40. Good luck.

I think I've got that board new in a box in my closet. I could dig it out if you're interested.

I've built a few budget C2D and C2Q systems using the Gigabyte EP43-UD3L board. Fry's has it for $80usd, I'm sure you can find it elsewhere for less.

Dragging this one back to the top because 7 months later, I still haven't touched this thing. Can anyone suggest a current motherboard that's cheap, reliable, and has everything that I need?

it sounds like a p35 or p45 board would have all you need, not really current but think can still be found new if thats what you are looking for

I really liked the gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l and ga-p45-ds3l

If you don't want to overclock your CPU at all, I have a board for you.....cheap.

I have an ASUS P5N-SLi board just sitting in a box.
I had an e6300 in it. It takes DDR2 Ram.
It will not OC worth a shit but is like a rock at stock. I even have a stock Intel S775 heatsink/fan I'll include for your processor. I will fire it up to make sure it works if you are interested.

You can have it for $25 + shipping.
Let me know if that appeals to you. I will set the BIOS so it accepts your processor if you give me the info.
