Long delay changing basic cable stations? (TW)

So my girlfriend picked up a Vizio HD TV a while ago for her bedroom. Previously, she was using an old CRT.

Anyway, she's hating it and wants to take it back because when she changes the channel, it takes roughly 2-5 seconds for a picture or sound to show up. I'm not sure if its the service, the TV itself or what. Her youngest son has an old 30" CRT in his bedroom and the channel changes instantly so I'm guessing its the TV processing the signal that's holding it up?

So my question is, can I get her a cable box or external tuner of some sort that will hook up to the TV via HDMI that will process the signal faster?

I would check and make sure the TV isn't trying to upscale the signal coming in from antenna or whatever.

There is no cable box. It's just basic cable (in her room)... coax from wall right into the back of the TV.

So you guys think it's a setting on the TV itself? I'll play around with it later.

Probably not. Just a low end tuner in the TV and it takes a while to change the channels.

I have a 26" vizio can has some kind of relay bank for different video formats. You can hear the relay snap a couple rooms away when it has to switch between 1080i and 720p. You'd swear the snap of the relay is big enough, it was a switch for the whole house power or something.

In general their TV's are fine for the price, but they do have quirks.
