LCD Monitors vs OEL Display

I recently got a new deck for my car with OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescent). Its pretty cool in the respect you can look at it from any angle and still read the display just fine, even with the sunlight shining directly on the screen.

Why can't they do something like this for LCD monitors? I'm sure I'm not the only one in the world who has a hard time computing for a few hours during the day because of sunlight on the monitor.
 
What you are looking for are OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays, these do exist in the market right now only on a few small handheld devices such as cellphones and cameras. They provide for extremely fast response times, good brightness/contrast and low power consumption. As well the benefit of a wider viewing angle, which is a benefit of any kind of Emissive display (light is generated at each pixel).

IIRC Problems with OLED displays are related to the lifetime one of the colors, which burn out after only a couple thousand hours of use. I imagine there are also issues getting displays into large scale production, although oled displays can be produced using an ink-jet printing method.

OLED is one of the more promising technologys out there, it and SED appear to be the closest to coming onto the market as alternatives or possibly complete successors to LCD and plasma displays.
