Last firewire iPod

What is the last iPod that will sync via firewire? I'd like to get one for my mom, but she is using mt old 17" iMac G4 that only has usb 1.0. So to sync at a decent speed, she will need a firewire pod. Any suggestion?.

My parents use the same machine. Both of them have video iPods (60GB & 30GB) They mostly just use them for music ( 5,000 song library) The initial sync is a bear but after that it's not too bad. If your mom has fixed library I wouldn't worry about the USB 1.0. Even if she's a heavy podcast listener, she could do her syncing at night and still be ok.

yea I wouldn't worry about it unless she adds dozens of songs daily.

but yea, the 4th gen photo (click wheel, color screen) was the last to have firewire capability (I believe it CAME with a USB cord though)
 
IIRC, my click wheel came with both cables and a firewire charger and the photo came with both cables and a usb charger...I could be wrong about the photo though.
 
my photo came with both cables and a firewire charger. it is a 40gig photo. so, thats around the time they stopped doing that, which doesnt make sense to me. my 80 gig video does not work over firewire, and i was really disappointed to find this out.

if you are looking to score one, i might be willing to part with it.
 
I wouldn't buy a firewire iPod just because of the sync speed. Like some other folks said, let the initial sync occur overnight or when the computer can be left alone for awhile. And after that syncs shouldn't take all that long. I guess you have an iStalk, right? I suppose it doesn't have a PCMCIA slot, huh? If it did, you could buy a USB 2.0 card for it.
 
Thanks for all the info. The photo sounds interesting. It would give her more capacity and the ability to have photos of the grandkids and great grandkids. I'll try and checkout the usb sync times too.

Of course, perhaps I should just get a new Aluminum iMac 24" at home and let her have my 20" G5. :)

where do you propose putting a pci card in a computer that looks like this-

nah... all you need is a minor case mod to fit that usb 2.0 card. ;)

man i always loved that style of imac. id really like to have one, but id want more processor in it and it just isnt possible. :(
