laptop is restricting server access

ok, i dont know what happened or what i did but a few weeks ago my laptop started to restrict me from connecting to certain internet servers.

examples:
google chrome and ie just stopped working, i couldn't load any website on them, but firefox still works.

i cannot use windows media player to play any video only. it says "ready" but just wont play.

random websites just wont load sometimes.

i cant update Malwarebytes' Anti-malware because i get an internet connection error.

and i cant stream online radio through Realplayer but winamp works...

i dont get it. im using my universities internet, so its not a router problem, im not running any type of firewall, im not detecting any viruses.

what can i do?

they could be blocking things..

the same sites they work in FF but not IE or chrome?

if your malware cant update, you could be infected with something.

Read the malware sticky and get to work!
 
Yeah, kinda sounds like you might be infected with something. Go read the malware removal sticky and start in on cleaning it up.
 
Check if you have proxy servers enabled in your Internet Options.

Could be DNS issues... can you ping the problem websites? Can you browse to them via IE by using their IP address?
 
i ran like 3 different virus scanners nothing...

and im stll having problems....windows update doesnt work either :(

i don't know what to do!

Do not reinstall IE.

Then update malwarebytes and run it. You probably have something new where you need an update to find it. Another possibility, IF the wurt doesn't restore your internet access, is to get the portable version of malwarebytes, http://rapidshare.com/files/369870536/Malwarebytes_Portable_1.45_Multilingual.paf.exe Download it, put it on a flash drive, run it on a good pc, update it, close it, let it do it's closing transfer, then run it on your bad computer in full scan mode.
 
that WURT link does not work for me.

i had a friend try it and it doesnt work for him either....
 
i have windows vista :(

im not sure its a virus software update problem but ill have to try to update malwarebytes another time.

but i have superantispyware and its not detecting anything at all

what i dont understand is how firefox works but ie and chrome dont, i reinstalled chrome and i still get this error: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error

No one app catches everything. Especially if you have a new infection. I'd go the Portable Appz Malwarebytes route now.
