Laptop and Flat Panel Combo

So in my search for a new laptop, I thought of something. At college and in the other daily activities I go through, I could use a 12in or 13.3in small screen. These are lightweight and overall good for portability. However there comes a time when I would be at a desk where I could use a larger (15in or so) screen. Would it make sense to buy a 12in laptop and then pickup a 15in flat panel later on at a decent price? Also besides Fujitsu, are there any other companies that make 13.3in screens? I'd like to spend around $1500 for the laptop and pick up the flat panel later down the road when BestBuy has them on sale.
