wondering if anyone has experience of a safe keylogger that i can DL. Would like to keep an eye on my kids pc but dont want to compromise network security. Im looking for a keylogger that WILL NOT send data. Any help would be appreciated.

Discussion of keyloggers is perfectly fine here as long as you state that your intention is to use it on a machine you have full ownership of.

I will caution though that all discussion is to be about the keyloggers themselves, not about your opinions on whether they are ethical or how their use reflects on the OP's parenting skills. All such conversation will be deleted and the individual who posted it will receive an infraction.

If you have an on-topic recommendation for the OP great, if not stay out of the thread.

I have no experience with any, but I know there are several threads floating around here that had asked the same exact question.

I recommend Cybersitter. It's not a keylogger, but it can be used to block lots of stuff. It will also maintain a log of visited sites as well. Take a look at it. So it will allow you to keep an eye on the kids PC as you originally stated you wanted to do. It can run in hidden mode.

I don't have a good recommendation for a keylogger (they can usually be bypassed fairly easily once the kid is aware of its presence). Also, I think a lot of spyware scanners and antivirus programs will go nuts when they find the keylogger (which you can choose to ignore).

But since you mentioned that you want to keep an eye on your kids... I don't know how old your kids are, but anything you put on their computer will probably be found and can be disabled or circumvented.

Have you considered using a router to keep an eye on them? Most routers have some sort of logging ability (usually IPs and domain names), but will not track keystrokes. Some routers even have content filters and/or more detailed logging. You can even physically move the router to a different room to prevent tampering. In addition this will protect and log all your connected devices (you can typically exclude IP's if you want) and you can view the logs without having to go to each computer.

steel keylogger. Offers screenshots to be taken at specified intervals and is very easy to use and free.

I can't recommend a keylogger, but if you want to keep an eye on what your kids are doing, I'd say put their PCs in a communal/family area where you/wife can see what's going on. A young boy is much less likely to try to visit porn sites if he knows mom/dad might walk by any second vs. being able to close the bedroom door and have his way with himself. ;)
