I just checked UPS.com and my 2900Pro was delivered at 11:15 this morning. Now I just have to kill 45 minutes at work. I don't know if I can make it......

I was needing an upgrade, and the price was right. Now I just need to see if this baby can exceed XT speeds. I plan to flash it to an XT if I can get to OC that high. Hopefully, I can break 800/1900. We'll see in a few hours......

Congrats, excellent bang for the buck card. C'mon back and tell us how fast she clocks. Enjoy. How are you feeding the beast by the way? I think my 620w Enermax is holding me back from Overclocking my XT card significantly. I can do 838/1900 stable using CCC but that's been it so far. I know the memory has some headroom if I use Rivatuner, but the core is the show stopper at the moment. Good luck.

If you can provide some pics and some benchmark results I will post your stuff on the front page

1. 3DMark06 would be great, but 3DMark05 or Futuremark are nice too.
2. If you could compare it to the performance in a newish PC game to your old video card
(FPS, resolution, filtering etc.) that would be awesome.
3. I am also interested in your overclocking results.
4. I would like to know the specs of your machine including your PSU.
 
It's broke!

If I connect one PCI-E connector to the 2x3 plug that is by itself, the fan will power on (OMG it is LOUD), but I get no display. If I plug in 2 pci-e connectors per the diagram on ATi's website, the fan won't come on and I get no display.

Here's what I'm running:

Q600 (3.1ghz@1.4v)
Giga P965-S3
OCZ 520w Powerstream
1x320gb Seagate Barracuda
Audigy SE
2gb DDR2 800

I'm pretty sure my PSU is strong enough to power the card. ATi's website specifies 550w, but the Powerstream is a good PSU. I tried setting my system back to stock clocks, and I still got the same results. Guess it's RMA time.
 
What? Are you f**king kidding me? Your card isn't working? Now I gotta grieve for the card.
 
So, I decided to go finish off The Darkness on my 360 since I can no longer look forward to a fun evening of overclocking and benching. And the game locks up on me 2 minutes into it. Ok, I think maybe it's just a glitch. Haven't had issues with my 360 before. So, I reboot and load the game back up....and it locks up again 2 minutes in. So, I pop in Halo 3 and it runs for 5 minutes and then locks up. So now I have a dead 2900Pro and a 360 that's on the fritz. I hope my Wii still works. I must have really pissed someone off...

Thats kind of ironic, your ATI vid card dies, and your ATI-powered Xbox is dieing. AMD must be getting you back for building an Intel system.
 
I did, tried them both several times. I'm tempted to get a more powerful PSU just to see if maybe that's the problem, got all weekend to dick around and see if I can get it to work.
 
I ran a overclocked 8800ULTRA, 4 Gigs of DDR2, 4 WD raptors, EXOS 2 watercooling system and a Q6600 @ 3.91GHz all on the OCZ Powerstream 520.

I don't doubt that you did since it has 33a on the +12v rail. Everyone's system is different including how much the +12v rail has degraded over time or possibly there was a problem with it to begin with. Anyway, removing the overclock is good place to start troubleshooting regardless.

You also want to update your sig since it says you have a GTS, unless you have a second machine with a Ultra in it. Then I am totally jealous.

Thanks for reminding me about my sig. I now have a 8800GTX the Ultra was sold. My 8800GTX is very close to the performance but was also $200 less. Also your right about removing the overclock first.
 
I guess I failed to mention that I did try it all stock settings. I even unplugged everything except for what is absolutetly mandatory to boot. This card is dead. It's just weird that the fan will power on with 1 plug in the 6 pin connector, but not with 2 plugs or 1 plug in the 8 pin connector.

This PSU is a good 2 1/2 years old with many, many hours of heavy use and it's always run systems that were OC'd to the max. It IS possible that is has simply degraded enough that it's not out it's rated power anymore.
 
Is the red light (ond the top of the card) on after you try and boot?

And do you have a Power connector in the 3x2 PCI-E and 4x2 PCI-E power connectors?
 
The red light comes on briefly when I first power up, then goes off while the rest of the machine boots up
 
Just go ahead and run a game or bench or something.. Maybe the fan will come on. If it's already broke its no loss.
 
I"m running the latest BIOS (F12). What I don't get is why if I plug 1 2x3 PCI-E connector into the 2x3 plug, the fan will come on but, of course, the monitor doesn't display anything. BUT if I plug in a 2x3 PCI-e connector into the 2x3 plug AND a 2x3 PCI-E connector (came in the box) into the 2x4 plug, then the fan doesn't come on and I still get no display. That just seems weird.

Do you have a Modular Power Supply? If so.. Take a look at which end you have plugged into the supply and which end you have plugged to your Card. There is a difference.. Or atleast there was for me.. I have the Corsair. Peace!
 
Powerstreams are not modular. Eventually, I'll have to accept the fact that the card is DOA.
 
I got the HIS version of this card. I'm running it at 850 core
925 memory
Updated the bios from Teckpowerup so the card would run at a higher speed in 3D.
The card changes the core and memory on its own when in 2d and going to 3d.
Using Riva Tuner to do the adjusting.
Stock Fan and voltage. Fan at 50% fixed . Any % higher and the Fan starts to whine.
Temp is 48c at idle stays that way when playing Oblivion and climbs to 62 with Battlefield2.
Using 2x6 pin for voltage instead of 6 and 8 pin.
Haven't found max yet, checking for stability.
It's a disguised 2900XT, my theory is they needed to get these cards sold before the R670 come out Nov 9.
 
Nice clocks. I hope my replacement card clocks that well. With my luck as it is now, I'll get the one that'll OC to 601mhz, lol
 
If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for it? If it is truly an HD2900XT in disguise, that is likely a killer bang for the buck.
 
Damn, that is a good deal. For someone that sat out the 8800/2900XT wars and needs an upgrade, that is nice. Good luck with your replacement card :)
 
:confused:Hey gang.The day i got my hd2900 pro,I thought it was broke after plugging it into the 6pin of my PC Power & Cooling psu.It sound like a jet plane with a bad engine.I switched to the 8pin and it worked ,I did get a warning about the card being under powered.Now this is my thought,is the card waiting for the new PCIE-2.0 spec,because I know my psu got good reviews.I would hate to have to go get another psu when this 1 is still good.I did call PC Power & Cooling and they basically said tuff luck.
 
Sorry to double post.My psu is a PC Power & Cooling 1kilowat its about 2yrs

Paid 289 Canadian at NCIX They have plenty of Sapphire but don't know what they clock at. My box that the card came in had new labels put on with the xt naming underneath. Also I have a thought that these last cards made have the latest chips and memory produced with the bugs worked out. Up here they advertised them as Limited Edition cards.
I wait a few months before I jump in, the future of where the cards are heading comes out in dribbles and I try to decipher as much as possible. Works for me. Did the same for my last card, got the Sapphire 800 GTO/2 Limited Edition and changed the Bios OCed and it became a 850 xt pe. All I can say is do your home work and you will be pleasantly surprises and save a few bucks at the same time.:)

I connected 2x6 and it OC fine, the 2 extra pins are grounds if you ground them you will be able to use CCC to overclock and allow a few more watts on the card, I believe the voltage goes from 1 to 1.2. if their not connected CCC won't show the OC section.
Some more info my HIS card won't let me flash useing an xt bios with Winflash but might work in DOS.
 
yay i just ordered my Saphire 2900pro... (had good luck with them... hade a saphire 9800 pro (favorite card of all time) then a saphire x850pro (flashed to xt)

my hx620 psu should be plenty big enough for this card right? only running 1 dvd drive and 1 HD...

also.... will my 4300 be a bottleneck for this card? or is that processor plenty for most/all games out right now or should i upgrade to quad core (which was my plan i got the e4300 when prices dropped to tide me over till quads were cheaper)

oh and ignore the mobo in my sig... i hate it and will be replacing it soon....:)
 
My Epower 550W with 40A struggled with this card. They are beasts when it comes to power requirements. Did you plug into the the 6 pins FURTHEST from the 6 pin power, or the 6 pins CLOSEST to the other 6pin PCI-E slot?

You have to plug into the one thats furthest from the 6 pin, so there is a gap of 2 pins in between the two plugs on the card.
