Here is the thing college student (automotive technician excelance program or some shit), so I need it for school (well want not really need) and my thing is I am currently paying for school and my habit ('93 ranger that I have swapped a 302 into, speed rocks) so I am not looking to break the bank. I am basically looking for something that will allow me to better write those last minute reports and shit and hit up my wireless internet. the only gaming I really do is an occasional game nothing new mostly simulation games or racing shit, no net games or anything advanced so no need for a VooDoo or aienware, but the occasional timekiller between classes is great along with the occasional DVD. What I am thinking is I can get a E machines (say about 5310) for $850-$900 won't break the bank and appears to have most of what I want need, I mean my current desktops are an old ass 400mhz at school at the apartment and a 800mhz at home so this is still a stepup so...... Guess what I am really asking is would you recommend this computer? the widescreen and instergrated ATI is a good selling feature.

You can run most current games at the lowest settings with that laptop. Older games should work better. I used to have an M5312, and they're solid performers. Sounds like it should be fine for everything you need.

Thanks man, no problems or anything with it, fairly stable? I used to be leary of e-machines, but I have been using an E-Machines desktop lately and am pretty impressed with it.

Thanks Timothy I hadn't even thought about checking review sites, must have had one of those mental blocks....

The games will run. They won't look pretty, but they'll run. I had NFS:U running with minimum settings, and I'd guess I was getting around 25 fps. I hadn't updated the drivers though...I hear if you update the drivers, it's around a 40% increase in performance.

Seriously I wasn't even expecting that, I have the PSII at home (and in the ride soon  ) for games like that, that is reassuring these e-machines are looking better and better.
