Is pci-e x8 enough for 8800gt?

I'm buying a board with that only supports x8 is SLI mode. I have a 7800gtx now but i'll likely buy an 8800gt within a couple months. Does PCI-e x8 supply enough bandwidth for an 8800gt? Thanks.

If it only supports 8x in SLI mode then it should support 16x in single mode. If you're only gonna use one card then you should be fine.

250 MB/s x 8 = 2000 MB/s or roughly 2GB/s

i dont know what chipset you have or how much bandwidth the video card itself uses on the PCIe bus, but most SLI capable boards are either capable of 8x per slot or 16x per slot

i think the PCIe bus is more than adequate, i remember back when PCIe was the new thing, you could run a 7900GT in a 2x slot and in a 8x or 16x slot and get the same result, so apparently, (at that point anyways) 2x PCIe was even overkill

if im not mistaken, the atix 850whatever_the_hell_it_was, that is he best card ever produced for agp barly maxed out an agp4x buss, let alown an agp 8x... i would seriously doubt any of todays cards are maxing out the 8x buss,

i should yank my x1800gto from my 16x slot and stick it in the 8 x and run a few tests to see if there is any difference.. while i know this isnt the most extream card out there, if disbnt have any effect on speed, i doubt any other card at this point would...

I thought i remember hearing that the 8800 series cards performed better in 16x slots. I can't remember where i heard that and whether or not it was only the gtx and ultra.

The difference between running that card in an 8X vs.16X slot will be marginal at best. The gain of SLI will more than overcome the marginal loss of 8X.

i've heard that there is only a 1fps difference between the agp version of a card and the pcie version! not that i've had any experience running cards like that, but if anything i would probably agree with learners permit and nobody_here (simply because you guys sound like you kinda know what your doing)
