My Macbook doesn't seem to want to play any discs. When I insert a DVD (a store bought one not a burned one), in frontrow it says "Disc not supported." I tried to install Leopard today and it wouldn't load as well.

When I insert a disc it sounds okay for a second, then it makes a noise like it's trying to read it but can't. It's sounds like..it's stuck or something, i can't describe the noise. The last time I used it with a DVD it worked fine, now it's not working. Help?

I've heard a recent firmware update could have killed it, and as far as I know i have all the recent updates. Please help.
 
I've had many problems with the optical drives in MacBooks and 15" MacBook Pros. They seem to have problems reading media over time. My 15" MacBook pro wouldn't read the OSX 10.5 disc or any burned media. I took it to an Apple service center to have it replaced for the 3rd time, and Apple called and told me they may just swap out the whole computer for a new one.
 
I looked it up and found out it's a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D. Firmware revision KBVB. I have a macbook from march of this year.
