This guy took the hard drive out of his iPod and replaced it with flash memory. You need a steady hand and a lot of free time to attempt something like this but the end result is very cool.

Well, in the process of gathering the information for what was needed to pull this off, the tought of making this a how-to became doubtful. Not that I want to exaggerate my own skills or such, but I had to go into three days of total Zen to get this done and in the end I had to hand-solder 88(!) connections by hand on the smallest of spaces.
 
This is awesome! I want one of those adapters the guy is making. Being able to backup my entire computer on an iPOD FTW.
 
Cool mod. I did the same thing with my old Rio Karma when the hard drive died. I didn't have to make my own Compact Flash to 2.5" IDE adapter though, I found one online.
