I am going to be studying abroad in australia. i am living in a privately owned complex. they monitor your internet usages by how much bandwidth you use. they allow for 150mb each month. i am wondering about how much that is in the sense of just websurfing

also will instant messager affect that
and
if i were to use a voice over ip service such as skype, will that use alot of bandwidth?

anything you use will affect it, and frankly 150mb is not alot for a month, a joke really.

skype when i tried it was using a steady 40KB/se in bandwidth, so their goes your 150 in an hour or less.

Within our Videotron internet services, it's not uncommon to see 5-10 mb daily generated solely from internet noise (pings/ack/etc...). 5x30 = 150 Mb doing nothing o_O

150 Mb is really a joke and 1 Gb should be the strict minimum.

they basically just told you all you can do is use the internet occassionally to send an email....and thats it. 150mb would be gone so fast as to make browsing the web almost pointless.

I average 30 gig a month, up and down combined.......and I don't do P2P...Just gaming and lots of surfing.....with the occasional Pron download :)

I don't see any way that 150mb is going to last more that a few hours....

I guess if you switched to the lynx browser you might just make it ;) or turn off all images, flash, sounds etc in IE.

150mbyte/month equates to viewing 50 100KB pages a day, to give you some idea of how limited it is.

150/Month? WTF??

I usually transfer over a gig a day.

Hah, I average over 3gb a day most months. Hell, in the past week I have done over 100GB. (Newsgroups FTW!)
