Intel Turbo Memory?

I believe it only applies to laptops. using 2gb or 4gb thumbdrives but I am not %100 sure on that
 
Does anybody have experience with this stuff? I've been searching the interweb for info but the intelligent articles that i've found were written 3 years ago when this was brand new tech. Anybody have hands on with "turbo memory" (aka FCM)?
 
Readyboost is not going to help a desktop much if at all. The reason is flash drives are pretty slow. This implementation will probably be better however because it uses a mini pci-e slot.


Also it only has 2 flash chips so its not like you will achieve SSD speeds or SSD reliability.

Right, I get that the implementation makes the most sense for notebooks/mobile computing as one of the major advantages is supposed to be longer battery life due to lower HD spin time. Have you seen/used this?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but SSDs gets it's speed from configuation (ie RAID) rather than the nature of the device, so something so small (like you said, 2 chips) isn't gonna benefit from that - and will have crap read/write capibilities. But i don't think that's the idea here - from what I can tell TM/FCM is supposed to be a semi-static cache that uses ReadyBoost to "learn" what you most often do on your computer, and then makes w/e is needed from your HD readily accessible on the flash memory - for quick read access rather than read/write. Sounds useful....but I suppose I'm just wondering if anyone has seen it in action...or if someone w/ knowledge would be willing to enlighten me on the hardware/software interplay.
