Installing new hard drive

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all.

I recieved a new hard drive for Christmas. A 250 gb Maxtor to replace my 80 gb Maxtor. Running low on space due to the fact that I have a crap load of games and my wife and I have a 1 year old son and she takes lots of digital pictures and does various photo shop collages and such. I also have a Maxtor 160 gb external that I have partitioned into 2ea 80gb's. One I use for MP3's the other is a backup of my C: drive. My plan is to do a clean install of XP on the 250 gb, I have all my C: drive backed up on my external hard drive so My documents and such I will have saved. As well as my saved games and so on. My questions are:

A: Is this the correct route to do this, or is there something easier that I'm missing
B: Will I need to update my bios and my VIA drivers? I have updated both of these at least once since I built this rig? Are these saved on the hard drive?

updating your BIOS is not a must. update your via drivers once you loaded your new OS.

Make your 80 gig with the C: slave and your 250 as master.

Partition the 250 into like 3 or 4 partions. Make your new C: like 20 gigs and the rest of the partitons for storage.

Once everything is up, you can either leave your 80 gig with the OS and data on it the way it is, or you can back up the data onto the 250 and format it for more storage.
