My friend wants a new dedicated gaming computer because his laptop just isn't cutting it. He wants to spend about $1000 (EXCLUDING THE MONITOR - he already has a nice one) but this is not a firm limit (he almost bought a $1200 Dell today). The only use of this computer will be gaming. He primarily plays Age of Conan but also plays other games. This is what we were thinking of buying:
Intel E8500 - $190
Asus P5E Deluxe X48 - $220
ATI 4850 - <$200
2x2GB DDR2
Windows Vista
What do you think of these components? Which version of Vista should we use for gaming? Should I get Vista 64 with 4GB? What speed RAM should we use? Are there any specific RAM combinations that would work well with this motherboard? Are there any specific 4850s that you recommend? Also, the mobo we picked supports crossfire right? Will it work just as well as using an ATI chipset?
We also need to get a hard drive. The Dell he was looking at had a 640 GB Western Digital drive which I hear is very good and costs about $85. However, my guess is a Raptor or something would be better. What capacity is really needed for a computer solely dedicated to gaming? Any suggestions? A case, PSU, and CPU cooler are necassary as well. We also need a wireless card. I know some mobo combos come with these so please keep that in mind. Thanks very much.
