I'm now looking for a new photo printer to substitute for my HP Deskjet 960c in photo printings. One possible candidate is the Canon i960 photo printer; do any of you have other suggestions? (Price range: $200 - 320 cdn)

Well from my experience with Canon I'd reccomend it. I personally own a Canon S520 and it's been an excellent printer. Once it's turned on and it's cleaned it's heads it prints very rappidly (can do an 8 1/2"x11" borderless photo in a minute flat basically). It spits text out looking very sharp and it prints text even more quickly (comparable to many lower end laser printers i've seen).

Also I believe the inks will be pretty cheap when compared to anything from HP etc. although I have never had to buy inks for that particular model of course. At the time when I bought my printer my printer was the cheapest cost per page to print. The ink tanks tend to last a fair bit of time.
