Any suggestions on a good imap server. Im looking to try both a good linux and a good windows based server.

courier and cyrus are the two big Linux ones I know of. The only windows server I know for email would be exchange.

Right now I'm using Merak for windows...does it all; POP3, SMTP, IMAP, Calendaring, and IM.

Don't remember the specifics, but it was kinda expensive :(

I've used Courier on Gentoo Linux in the past. They have a good setup document, and I found that to be quite helpful. Other documents exist on the Web for generic Linux setups.

I didn't find configuration or use to be difficult at all. I was quite pleased.

thanks im going to give these a try. I saw cryus but I wasnt sure if it would be any good or not.

Ill check these out. :)

i use an IMAP server on windows called the Lumisoft Mail Server.

here's more information:
http://www.lumisoft.ee/lsWWW/ENG/Products/Mail_Server/mail_index_eng.aspx?type=download

i snagged it because i wanted one written in c# with available source, and it's free.

i've had no problems with it, though be aware that clients sending certain search commands will probably not work as the IMAP FETCH command part of the server has been stubbed out for future implementation (it's currently at version 0.82, so it's not done).
