IBM guarantee warning

I bought a brand new IBM laptop and after opening up the box, I noticed it had a dead pixel right in the centre of the screen. I phoned IBM to try and get the laptop replaced, but they said they would not replace a laptop with a single dead pixel, it needed to have 6 or more dead pixels...

After spending more than £1000 I thought they'd offer a better guarantee... I'm a student and £1000 doesn’t come easy!

Anyway, I read on the internet somewhere that if you rub the screen with a piece of cloth and play fast video games, it could go away. Well, I tried but it didn’t work at first until today when I noticed it wasn't there anymore! Amazing.....

Hope this post helps some other people looking into buying a laptop or maybe someone with a dead pixel...

Ive had a "thing" with a single pixel on my t41. This pixel (which is near the lower center of the screen), will randomly become stuck, but will go back to normal if I switch resolutions and back. It kinda freaked me out at first.

Same thing here, twice on a T42. I initially thought..."aw...shit." but I changed wallpapers and turned the laptop off and went out. Came back and all was good again.

This will sound strange, but click the MIDDLE button on your touchpad and see if it makes the 'dead pixel' go away. Again, its the MIDDLE button ABOVE the touchpad.

Call them, tell them you're not happy with your current system and want a brand new model (same one of course). You have 30 days.

i have a stuck green one on my T42, however its in the bottom right corner and so small its not even noticable, decided it wasnt worth the trouble of returning

did you try massagin it?

take a piece of microscope cleaning paper aka lint,static,smudge free cloth and just rub it gently like you were buffing a car.

and honestly one pixel isn't that bad.

don't talk smack about IBM's warrenty either. I've had my x40 for a while now, and 3 months in my HD died at like 1AM while I was just chillin online in bed. I called them up at 1AM and at 10AM DHL came to my door with a new HD and recovery cd's.

If that isn't support then IDK what is.

The dead pixel is back !! :-(

It goes after ten minutes though. I've tried pushing the middle button, but it didn't help either. Anyway, I just noticed today that the Hard Drive has lost some GB's. This machine is turning into a right piece of shit.

It's meant to have 40GB's and at first it said it had 38GB, which is ok cause u normally lose a bit when its all formatted, but now it's saying it's only a 32GB HDD. I haven't installed any extra programs and the "Capacity" shouldn't change anyway.

Also, the company I bought the laptop from (www.ebuyer.com) are not replying to the email I sent them and there is no phone number to ring.

IBM say I have to sort out the problem with my dealer...

After all this hassle, I'm gonna go for a full refund. When I bought IBM, I thought I was paying a little extra for quality. How wrong I was....

Yea I think you should return it for a full refund
Then buy a Dell or an HP or Compaq
They are so much better and don't ever have a bad one.
