I picked up one of these bad boys a couple weeks ago @ Microcenter here in DFW. I am running it on a Sabertooth X58. So far I have it up to 3.7 on a preset in the BIOS. Looking for some more tweaks to get to 4Ghz.

Post up!

More CPU voltage?

I only ever changed my CPU and QPI voltages and of course I changed the DRAM voltage to meet the specs of the RAM at it's rated speed (1600MHz). Mine would pass benchmarks and stress tests at x20 multiplier but would crap out playing games, it did not like x20. I said "EFF IT" and went to 200×21 and it's been good since.

I ended with something like CPU 1.3325V and QPI 1.35V. Oh yeah, and 200×21.

I'm paying attention to this one.

I have been thinking about getting an i7-950 to replace my i7-930. The 23x multiplier and possible memory configurations for over clocking the memory interest me.

I can run 210 bclk on my i7930 with max 21x multiplier. Would be nice to get the multiplier to 23 without using Turbo.

How does the I7-950 do at high bclk speeds and 23x multiplier?

What about over clocking the memory on the i7-950??

I'm thermally limited right now, H50 cooler is tapped out and gets a little warmer than I would like, voltage is set at 1.38125 in the bios, I haven't tried to push it anymore than 4.2 yet so I'm not sure where it tops out.

Settings from bios:

4221mhz

ai overlock tuner: x.m.p
ram: profile #1
cpu ratio setting: 21x
full power: enabled
bclck: 201
pcie: 100
dram: ddr3 1611

qpi: auto
3rd party: asus utility

cpu pll voltage: 1.96
qpi volt: 1.38125
ioh voltage: 1.12
ioh pcie: 1.52

ich pcie: 1.60
dram bus: 1.65

cpu diff amp: 800mV

I'm lazy, eventually I'll push it harder but 4ghz seems acceptable at such low voltage.

qb4ever......What are your temps? core and ambient

I'm 76C folding at 4.02Ghz, 174x23 with 1.28125Vcore, 1.415 qpi/vtt

Ambient is around 25/26C

NIce 23x multiplier effect. Nice voltage on Vcore the VTT looks a little high. Have you tried to lower Vtt? What is your NB speed? If you can get it under 3600mhz I think you can lower your Vtt and maintain stability and lower you temps.

My NB is the qpi correct? 3134.

I had my vtt lower, but i was getting bsod and feezing while folding. The bsod weren't the vtt error 124 or whatever.

I've tried 200x20 and get the typcal 124 error indicating vtt too low, unless its 1.5!

I am tweeking slowly, and will lower my vtt if i sustain a few more days of stability folding.

39C idle and almost 90C load ambient is 23C I need to reseat it again I guess, was hitting around 85C max with core damage just after I put it on the last time.

4.0GHZ at 1.2125v
Runs stable. Runs cool. Runs fast.

Could you post a CPU-Z link or screen shot? I'd like to see more details on your settings. Very nice.

How much vtt v.?

What are your idle and load temps?

What are you using for cooling?

Though I've had my 950 for a while now, I haven't been bothered to do any actual tweaking (apart from a basic voltage bump? Not sure what the stock is). Currently at 23x174 on 1.2625v. It idles around 46C and tops out at around 90C, but that's with a CNPS9700LED at max and a very old Chieftec case.

One day when I get a better case/HSF I'll try to push that BCLK to something much higher (and maybe drop the multiplier by one), but for now, this'll do.

hey guys what batch numbers are these CPUs?

Mine's 3042A629.

saving some pennies for a H50 or H70. my current HS is just a little too loud. what paste is everyone using now? a while back it was arctic silver.

also, what memory? I have some patriot stuff that is OK, but have to rma some g-skill that is shit. i hear the corsair stuff is good, but pricey.
