It's alright...the graphics are pretty low end, the gameplay is simplistic...not quite sure about the plot, it's a bit interesting so far, but I don't really know where its going to go...I doubt much of anywhere...we'll see. It was only 39.99 right at release, I'm pretty sure whys it's lowered in price...yeah, hopefully I didn't waste my money.

There's a weird quirk to the options though...it won't let me have full scene effects and antialiasing on at the same time...that sucks. I think the peps at Neversoft spent all of there time on teh Xbox 360 version and put the PC version off.

I've got it, played up until the dodge city part (roughly around 45'ish minutes).

Playin the pc version.

So far I like some things and find some things a bit lacking.

Quick draw is very very nice. I shot one guy in the arm and then the foot and he spun around over the railing of the steamboat. Then of course there's shooting someones head and then eyeball :p.

Third person shooting like you normally do is quick and easy, however it lacks a bit of precision aiming, even if you are using a mouse. Not in the sense of hitting targets, as you can do that, but it seems to have a "auto aim" helper like a lot of console shooters do and no way to turn it off. When you aim near a target your crosshair becomes "sticky" to that target and you can't aim quickly at precise places.

The mounts are very very nice, however I keep getting the model of my horse changing everytime I load a new area/play a cutscene, which kind of sucks if you find a mount you like the look of and you'll end up losing it once you change scenes/areas.

The voice acting is very very nice among the very fluid style of the animations.

I'm just up to dodge city so I haven't played enough to get really in depth with it just yet.

Here's a screenie I took (loved the sky color) right before you cross the river to dodge.

made me think of the pale rider :).

I agree with you whole-heartedly...it's got some nice gameplay and controls...I wanted more graphics, but I have to admit, I like the story and plot...and I like some of the light-weight RPG elements it has in the game...side-missions are cool!

I just started it too. I'm on the Riverboat.
I like it so far. I want to scalp someone.

I killed 3 horses learning to ride

I was always suspicious when I read in previews that it would automatically detect your pc's power and use either the xbox1 or 360 graphics in the game. Does it let you manually enable normal mapping and stuff? I know console ports don't always have the options of straight up pc games.

yes well...it looks like xbox 1 graphics to me...but the textures are probably a little better and the modeling a little more realistic...options SUCK

The options are indeed a bit weird.

You can select the detail of things.

However in order to use FSAA you have to turn off Full scene effects (HDR), which sucks imo, cause I like HDR. However with no FSAA the game has a ton of jaggies, that it looks like a playstation 2 game. Also HDR seems to make the game lag, a lot more then fsaa 4x.

Running on:

amd 64 3400
768mb ddr
geforce 6800ultra.

w/ everything on high/shadows on I get some lag when I enter a city/new area and get it more noticably with the full scene effects on.

Here's a few more screenies I took:

I've played for around 4-5'ish hours and i'm only at empire city (around 15'ish% or so). Spent a lot of time just exploring around the land once I got to empire city.

The "save" feature is a joke imo, you can't actually save anywhere. If you save out in the world it will automatically put you in the town that your current storyline mission is on. If you save during a mission (like after a tough part) it will still just save at the start of the mission and you have to redo it all.

I'm playing the game on hard diffculty, and it is hard. About 3 shots from a rifle kills you, i've had to redo my fair shar of missions so far.

One thing I was hoping for, better side missions. I figured that once you became a deputy/pony express rider.....that you actually became one. Nope.

You simply do a quick mission and that's that. I really wanted to get to be a sherrif or such of the actual town I took the job in and keep being one, have to stop random crimes when they happen, etc like a real sherrif would have done.

The pony express is a joke....a freaking delivery mission within the same town??? going shopping for goods? That's not what the pony express did...they rode fast and as hard as they could for the first "quick" long-distance mail service, going from checkpoint to checkpoint switching for fresh horses, etc. It was a very hard job and many people died doing it because of bandits/indians aswell as natural dangers.

Still, i'm pretty much loving the game, I just wish they fleshed out things a lot more. It feels like it was a bit "rushed" and with the storyline/voice acting I wish they woulda added another 6months or so to development and worked on making it bigger and better.

I too picked up Gun last night and find it to be an awesome game. As someone said earlier, this really is GTA meets the Wild wild west. However, the graphics really stink and i'll be mighty pissed if the Xbox360 version looks better than my PC version with everything turned way up. I like the gratuitous violence(you can actually scalp people), loads of cussing, and the 2-dimensional whores.............

Don't worry about that, the Xbox360 Version is just a port of the Xbox version. The only upside would be running at 720p with FSAA. Not that big of an improvement, and if you force your video card to do FSAA (from the desktop) and enable Full Scene effects within the game, crank the resolution up as far as it will go, you will be sure to get a better picture than the consoles get.

The biggest thing holding this games graphics and gameplay back is the fact it was ported from the consoles, meaning the PS2 being the least of the hardware. It would have been a much better looking game if it was only made for the two Xbox machines and the PC.

IMO the graphics aren't "bad" at all.

Since it's an open world, with no loading as you travel they probally couldn't have easily had the graphics of Fear/doom 3, etc. Unless they wanted people to have a monster rig to run it.

They really arn't, but playing the latest games like Quake 4 really raises your expectations for eye candy. Especially since this game was being released for the X360, I had high hopes. This game is so good with it's GTA-SA style gameplay that I hope there are loads of cheat codes for this game. Games of this nature are just a awesome to replay using cheat codes and blasting everything.
