I currently have the following setup and was thinkin' of upgrading some parts.
E6750, 1x 500GB 1x 36GB raptor 1x 250GB, 2GB ram, 2x X1950,

I'm mainly using the PC right now to stream movies and TV shows to the TV and also for Ripping CD's and streaming them to my Work PC.

My question is would I benefit from upgrading anything or should I just keep things as is and use the money elsewhere.

I was thinking of possibly going to a quad core, maybe getting a DX10 vid card. And possibly getting different HD's and going for a raid setup.

Just looking for opinions.
 
Do you use the rig for gaming? If the computer is just a HTPC/Music server, I'd actually downgrade it. Seriously--drop the x1950's and put in a single Radeon HD 4350 (that's the one that was just released, right?). It'll drop your power consumption enormously, as well as the accompanying heat and noise. And there's absolutely no need for a quad-core in there, either. RAID won't get you anything, either, unless you're looking for data redundancy--performance isn't even close to being an issue, even with single drives.

There's no reason for two of those x1950XT cards to be there unless you're using the system as backup gaming rig. Also, what's your budget for these upgrades? And what PSU do you have?

If you need more storage, just start adding 1TB drives. If you want uptime and some redundancy (note that RAID/redundancy != backup), then pick up some WD 640GB or Seagate 1TB drives and do a RAID5 setup using onboard RAID or an external hardware RAID controller if you have the money for it.
 
Ya basically I had the one x1950 in my PC and my buddy got himself a 3870 and just gave me the other one so I figured why not right. I was just thinking the raid setup and quad core for the ripping I do. I have so many CD's and I want to put them on the PC and route that to the Stereo along with the video.

You guys think I wont notice much a difference though upgrading?

I'm trying to sell the x1950's also but nobody seems to want them for $100

I do the occasional gaming like command and conquer type stuff but the rest of it is on the 360.

I have an asus P5B vista premium board
 
In terms of transcoding CDs or DVD, you would see an improvement if you upgraded your processor. However, since those are once-in-a-while tasks, and can be queued to run whenever you want, performance shouldn't be an issue, even with a slower CPU. In other words, rip your CDs and DVDs, set up the transcoding queue, and let it run while you sleep.

Yeah I'm not surprised that no one wants to buy a pair for X1950XT for $100 total. A single 8800GT performs on par if not better than X1950XT Crossfire. And they can also be had for $100 used and do not require a Crossfire capable motherboard.

Oh and you never answered the questions in my last post.
 
Ya that's what I was thinkin' about the cards also.

I have a 500w Enermax Power supply. Basically my budget will depend on the ability to sell the parts that I have right now. I have no use for them once I switch over.
