Hello,

I am trying to decide what kind of graphic card / tv card (or seperate cards) I need to use in conjunction with Windows XP Media Center (have a copy). My question is I was reading (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2054&p=2) a review on some of the more budget ati all in wonder cards, and it mentions that while their software is good, media center is still better. So can I still buy the card and just use the xp media center for all my tasks, or do I have to use ati's software?

I recommend buying an card with a hardware encoder. It will just be better quality and then u have the option to record things, pause tv, and so on...

There are other cards, those are just some good deals. As far as vid cards go, just anything cheap or even integrated video on some boards is good.
 
Ok I forgot to mention, I also wanted to use the computer for gaming (from time to time). Thats why I was refering to the ati all in wonder cards. an I was wondering which of the many in the series would be best..
 
there's a few ways that you can go... if you want the most upgradable option without worrying about upsetting anything, go with separate cards- like a happauge pvr 250 or 350 plus a 9800 pro...

However, on the budget side of things, the cheapest way to go would be a AIW series card, such as the AIW9600XT or AIW9800Pro, which will cost less than the Hauppage/9800Pro combo... Either way should work- just remember the ATI AIW's (if i remember correctly) only work with the 2004 edition.
