1. Laptop is in perfect condition
2. Laptop has a new battery and a new power cord. However, both are not official HP products. The charger is the perfect knock off, and the battery is also a knock-off.

The laptop is a HP Pavilion dv7 1132nr. It is still worth a little bit of money and I would like to try and figure out what the heck to do with it.

Here is what happens:
1 - Battery not in = laptop sometimes works for awhile
2 - Battery in = will not even bother starting up. If it miraculously does, it never even gets to the bios screen.
3 - Battery in without power cord = see #2

It would seem to me that something on the motherboard is defective?
Silly laptops. Women buy these things and dont realize they are a pain in the ass to fix.

Embellish on #1, it's the key to this riddle. What do you mean it "works for a while". What happens at the end of this working period.
 
I would be careful about the power supply. I just had a dv4 and a dv6 into the shop. My normally reliable universal power supply would not boot these pc's up. We actually sent the dv6 to HP. They sent it back with a new power supply and it worked fine. Ordered a new power supply for the dv4, worked fine but not with the universal. Dell went with a smart connection in some of their laptops, so maybe there is a sensor that picks up a knock-off.... hope this helps....
 
Sadly, the HP laptop is a sensitive beast. You need a HP branded replacement power supply.

The battery needs to be same.

My suggestion - sell it before it breaks more.

(Had a DV6100 series - it died - 3 hard failures - memory, wireless(motherboard), and hard drive. Replaced at HP's expense with a DV9700t cto - custom - died, due to dreaded nvlddmkm.sys issue with Nvidia graphics chips - they had a bad batch of graphic chips with solder issues, and did not fix them, but supposedly colluded with HP to speed the cooling fans and under clock the chip, so the solder issue would not show as often during the warranty... Lovely.)
 
just as a heads up, I actually had a laptop that would not boot with the battery inserted, with Win7.... it'd work fine if I removed the battery but if it was in it was a no go. Why you may ask? I have no clue but that was the case, so i gave it to my roommate.

Laptop = Averatec 6130hs (P4 1gb Moblie 9700 pro)

yep its junk, but hey it runs win7 just fine.

HP's tend to be more or less durable than the average Dell, at my work we've had maybe 20 calls in 2+ years for hardware on PC's that are up to 5 years of age, whereas the facility I worked was an HP enviroment had calls weekly or bi weekly.
