Actually, I think i'll go with 4200+. It is $107 less in cost and runs at the same speed just has a smaller cache size(im not planning on OC'ing).

AM2 + DDR2 would be more future-proof, almost no difference in cost.

You could also get cheaper 667 memory and run it at 800.

Ah crap, my mistake...I already ordered it and I didn't get the newer stuff. In a month or two my family is getting another PC and it was going to be intel duo 2 core technology, so think I'll be fine? As long as I have one computer with the new tech?


Also, will i notice this computer I ordered run any slower compared to if it were the AM2 cpu and DDR2 memory? Please say no

Don't worry about it man, the upgrades/benefits the AM2 platform will see aren't coming for a while. The issue is that the lower wattage cpus and (soon to be) less expensive DDR2 RAM aren't available to you, but thats not a big deal.

The platforms are essentially equivalents in speed at the moment (a 939 4200 will run just as quick as an AM2), so don't fret.

yep, negligible speed difference, just more upgradable since they don't make 939 CPUs anymore. With a Core 2 Duo system around, you'll have some DDR2 to play with, so I wouldn't worry about it.

But why make a thread asking if it's good if you already paid for it? Not that it's a bad setup. What power supply did you get and what brand is the memory?
