HL2 preloading?

youre funyn dummy i have more posts then you

Well, I have more posts than you, and I can tell you that before you call someone a dummy you should:

1. Look in the mirror.
2. Do a simple search--it works now, you know.
3. Failing #2, look at the post topics in this forum.

I know it's a lot of reading, but you'd quickly realize that the Half-Life 2 preload has been pushed back to Monday, August 23--that's tomorrow.

I hate it when people think that they're better than others simply because of their post count. Quality, not quantity.

What is all this preloading? All last week everyone was talking about preloading this, preloading that.. wtf does it mean?

steam has the capability of downloading game data before a game is out, this way it can kind of "preload" the data before the official release, which makes it so upon the official release, the game may be played almost instantly.

I think the primary advantage is really a major reduction in server load on release day. You guys remember what happened to Steam for the CS 1.6 release.

ok.. but what would keep cracking groups from figuring how to crack these "preloaded" versions of hl2 before the release date?

It's not everything. Files that are critical to run the game aren't included.

Eeek, should I have waited to register the HL2 coupon I got from my 9600XT? I have all the half life games. Did I just screw myself out of free HL2?

well judging from past preloads, the files inside the main contrainer file are encrypted, and perhaps as a previous poster stated some important files are also discluded from the preload.

hopefully soon before school starts... man...cant wait till i find out whats up with cs-source full either

If you had the HL2 coupon thingie and registered it , it will pre load to you via steam.....no matter when you register it.
