I played it a bit today and hardly noticed any graphical difference between this one and the original (or High Def pack if you will). I saw a bit of that floating dust in sunlight stuff, and the wall textures may be a bit higher res, but the models and vast majority of objects look exactly the same. I can't say I was expecting much, but I don't really know what the :Source part of Half Life: Source means.

Aye it isn't a huge remake but they added in some shadowing, little bit better graphics in some areas, HL2 water, some lighting effects (such as reflection) and that's basically it.

Agreed. I'm not impressed at all. I'm not complaining though, HL2 is good enough for the both of them.

Ah, I didnt get far enough to see the water. Been too busy playing 2 :)

I agree with that 100%. I more wanted to bring this to the attention of people considering buying Silver because of HL:Source.

Point noted. I did buy Silver because I thought they were redoing all of the models for HL (I obviously did no research) but I ended up joining a CZ clan, so it worked out.

i think their intention was to not drastically change the content. i did notice the slightly better textures(i was playing through the original before last night @my usual 1600x1200 where the fugly old textures are VERY blurry, but not so bad now with the source version), awesome new water, better/shinier character models(it's minimal but they are a bit improved), the flashlight actually works like a real light now, physics applied so dead bodies don't just explode when you crowbar them or shoot them now, fast weapon switch option that never worked right before, no more elevator bug, recoil seems to be more realistic, etc... i can't think of any more atm, but that's not too damn shabby methinks.

I'm pretty sure that the only reason valve even ported this was so that people who bought hl2 but hadn't played hl could follow the story. I also seem to remember reading that it was an initial attempt to see how simple it was to port things to the Source engine.

No..... it was ported simply because they(valve) wanted to see how easy it would be to port HL content to the source engine... pretty much the only reason it came from valve and not much added to it.... but there are a dozen mod teams waiting to do a complete make over..... so quit yer bitchin...

I bought hallf-life 2 (not the gold or silver pack).. and I would like to get Day of Defeat: Source when it comes out.. hopefully they will allow people to get these ports individually instead of making them buy a pack if they already have the game.

Half-Life: Source won't even start for me. It loads everything up until the fuzzy "Loading" screen. Then it just sits there...and sits there...I waited six or seven minutes last time, and still nothing, while Half-Life 2 goes through that screen in twenty seconds or less.

this guy has it right :)

Valve has all the models from the Dreamcast (used in Blue Shift/Hi-Def pack) and PS2 versions of the game, but didnt put them into HL1:Source. WTF?!?

Exactly the same problem with me... wonder why...?
