I have a 12" powerbook w/superdrive, and the drive is acting up! A few days ago, out of the blue, it stopped taking any CD's! Whenever I stick a CD/DVD (god knows I've tried nearly every kind of CD's I have to make sure it's not a selective problem) into the slot, it tries to read it for two seconds, then spits it out. I looked into the system info, and it said that "No SCSI device detected". What do I do??

Thanks in advance!!

send it back to apple. i have heard a few of the ibook guys with troubles with the slot loading drives.

dont take it apart unless you have had it for a year and have no applecare.

Why would it detect a SCSI device?

PowerBooks haven't had SCSI busses in years and the built in drives are ATA/IDE.

Sometimes the power manager just needs a simple reset. Properly shut-down your Powerbook, then press "Shift+Control+Option+Power Button" simultaneously. Wait 5 seconds, and then turn your Mac back on. This fixed the same problem that a buddy of mine was having.

thanks brett...I was going to suggest the same thing but if that doesn't work it will have to come in for service...as for the SCSI reference..internally I think it is just thinking it is a SCSI item..no biggie

I did the shift-control-option-power thing, but to no avail. ARGH!! Now how do I send it back?

call into applecare and we will get a box to you to ship back for repair...chill..it is an easy thing to repair

your pb will be gone for a maximum of 5 days from the day you send it out. If you call now you will have your box tomorrow.
