I do not have windows media center, i'm running vista business

I'm looking for a remote to control typical functions of the PC in terms of movies and music. it seems like it most of the remotes i've seen require windows media center, which i do not have, does anyone know of one that doesn't need windows media center?

you could pay microsoft to step up to vista ultimate, that would give you media center, while i think retain all of your enterprise features.

Its a little pricey though, probably not worth it, since i think the oem version of ultimate is similar to their update pricing.

my tv remote doesnt require WMC but its not compatible with your pc :p

IIRC Business still has the MCE remote drivers in it. I'd suggest getting the MCE remote anyways since it's well supported by many HTPC-like apps.

the MCE remote they're talking about is the Microsoft Media Center Edition remote control. I have one, it works in XP pro to control windows media player and Zune right out of the box, but google it to see if vista business supports it. Something like a Snapstream Firefly might work if the MCE remote turns out to be incompatible

I have a MCE remote but do not have MCE, Seems that if you install the eHome MCE patch then the PC will recognise the Remote reciever. This is with the remote that came with my Hauppauge TV Tuner. most functions work fine, but not all do work, enough work to make it useful however.
