Ok guys, as you know christmas is around the corner.. and the gf and I arent spending that much this year...being that we are broke college kids.. so, i was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if I am goin to screw myself by making this upgrade or not..

i currently have an Athlon 64 3000+ 754 Newcastle (overclocked from 2 to 2.5ghz).. I am not sure what is limiting my overclock though, (board or cpu). I am currently at 250x10, and i know that i start going unstable at 254x10. My mobo is an ABIT KV8 Pro..

all i want to know is what the chances are of still gettin a good overclock on this processor.. I have good cooling solutions..Dont want to get a useless xmas present... thanks guys
 
Yes, you will screw yourself. Your 3200+ is already at 2.5ghz which is prety damn fast. Also, you say you are a broke college kid and the money could go better elsewhere.
 
Screw that, put that $ twords a new video card or something...

Looking at that I would replace the CRT with another LCD, buy a better PSU, or fix the hodge-podge storage you have going on.
Some other things to consider if you don't have them:
DVDRW
wireless KB/Mouse
surround speakers
maybe some game or software you've been wanting
 
Man, when I was still into desktops, I purchased that cpu for 160. On top of you guys being broke, that price to me seems high. Keep it and buy something else since the upgrade really isnt an upgrade--at least for 200mhz gain its not. The cache difference wont make much of a difference either.
