I don't know what the HELL is going on !!! :(


I'm having nothing but problems my friend's PC

ic7-g max II / P4 3.0 800 mhz 1 mb / 1 gig corsair xms 2x512 mb 3200C2PT and
a wd 200 gig 8mb wd2000JB harddrive

i have it all togehter and i can't get windows xp installed
it will see the HD and then it won't see it !!! AHHHHHHHH :mad:

i've tried all the ways i could think of hooking thr HD up -- with the adapter and
with out it !!! BTW - what does that adapter do ?

did anybody else have any problems like i'm having ?

I KNOW I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG !!!!! :mad:

PLZ people tell me what to do before i really FUCK something up !!! :(
 
I just ran into a similar problem when I recently put together a computer with some spare parts I had laying around. BIOS would see the hard drive but windows would not. Then BIOS would lose the hard drive. It was a WD 160 gig 8M buffer by the way. Turned out the jumper on the back had to be set to cable select. Even though the drive was the master and only drive on the IDE cable, it would not work when I had it jumpered for master. As soon as I set the jumper to cable select windows saw the drive and loaded with no problems.
 
Yep, start with checking the jumpering on the back of the disk. Cable-Select is your friend. If that doesn't do it, might try connecting it with the other connection on the cable in the freak chance that you've got a bad cable.

Here's some additional info if you are interested. Of particular note is the comment about signalling issues if you are only using one drive on the cable and it is connected to the middle connection.

now i have to spend the whole day filling it up with games !!! :p


what does that adapter do and is there really a big difference between an
sata HD and a regular HD ?

can i have both and will windows see them all or will i have problems ?

i really don't understand that stuff :confused:
